I don't normally leave reviews (especially bad ones or ones this long) but I felt the experience I had today at The Waterfront Shoppe made it necessary. I work as an Outreach Specialist for a nonprofit youth homeless shelter based in Port Huron. We provide services to St. Clair, Huron, and Sanilac counties. Part of my job is traveling to the different places in these counties to get our name and number out there and spread awareness to the different services we offer. We chose to come to Harsens Island for the first time, and stopped at the waterfront shoppe to ask if we could leave a flyer with the name of the shelter, the number, and the link to our Facebook page.
I was with my boss, and my coworker upon entering the shoppe I went to the counter and talked to the cashier(she was an older woman) who was a 2 out of 10 on the friendly scale at best. I told her a little bit about what we do, and she said she would take a flyer to show the owner. We decided to look around for a few minutes. While admiring the items that were in the shop all 3 of us felt very uncomfortable at the non stop unfriendly stare coming from the cashier. My coworker ended up buying a Tshirt and a little turtle statue. My boss and I opted not to buy anything. We waited at the counter while my coworker paid for her items with a card, we said thank you and walked out. We went across the street to a little library. The woman in there were very friendly, we talked to them for a few minutes and left a flyer with them as well. We walked out and went to go back across the road to our company car that was parked outside the waterfront shoppe. As we crossed the street a woman approached us and identified herself as the owner of the shop. She then proceeded to ask if we had just bought something from there. My coworker said yes, She asked if we bought a turtle necklace. We all said no, and my coworker said she bought a turtle statue not a necklace. She then asked if we could have picked it up and forgotten to pay for it. Looking confused at eachother we said no again nobody had gotten a turtle necklace.
She then stated "Well we are missing one"
It was then we realized we were being accused of stealing. We all said no we didn't take anything She then says oh well I guess it could of been someone else there were people in the store before you.
First of all as a shop owner if your first interaction with your customers is to accuse them of theft shame on you.
Secondly we were there on a professional visit. My coworker paid with her credit card, and we left a flyer with our jobs name and number on it. Shoot we must be the dumbest thieves you ever met. 😂😂😂
We DID NOT steal anything We were met with rudeness and an uncomfortable experience I'm not sure what the reason was, if it was because I told the cashier we worked from port Huron?, or our appearance?? (I was wearing a t-shirt and jacket, my coworker was wearing a work Tshirt with the shelters name on it, and my boss was wearing a dressy shirt)
You just lost future customers (A shame as I was planning on bringing my mom and husband to check it out, as well as coming back to purchase a few things that I really liked.) I will be sure to share the news that out of Towner's are met with baseless accusations. Very disappointed, was embarrassed and felt extremely uncomfortable, beautiful shop not so...
Read moreI waited to leave a review for the Waterfront shop. I was very Salty. I wanted to leave a non angry review. Myself and two Of my friends went into the shop which is so cute. My two friends love turtles and kept pointing out all of the turtle items they had in there. We looked around for about 25 minutes. My friend made a purchase and we left. We went to the library across the street. As we were coming out of the library the shop Owner came out and asked us if we had bought a turtle necklace. We replied no, but my friend had purchased a Nick knack turtle. She s offed “I know what you bought. I asked you if you bought a necklace because one is missing.” I said” if you know what she bought why are you asking her what she bought!” She said “ I’m missing a necklace and I thought maybe you FORGOT to pay for it. It is missing.” I was so angry. She offered no apology. So I recant my previous statement of this being a cute shop. Her and her worker...
