I was thoroughly disappointed with my nephew and I’s experience this year with Southeastern Expeditions when we had such a great experience the previous year. The staff seemed sloppy and disorganized and quite frankly like they didn’t want to be there. Upon prepping to get on the river one of the guides lost control of the raft and hit me. And then another guide rudely just yelled at me to move out of the way. It was kind of hard to understand what to be doing when given no direction. Our guide, Amanda, was lack luster and would often times yell at our raft to be quiet which quickly made us feel like we were in the military rather than on a fun adventure. We were disappointed when we didn’t get to do the cliff jumping this year, something that we enjoyed immensely the year before. At each communal stop, the smokers that were on the other rafts were out of control. It seemed that every stop we made they immediately would light up. We were in nature not at a Lynard Skynard concert. Gross. At the end of the trip this year we were required to hike up a half mile of wet terrain, which the wet terrain part was clearly not their fault but should be noted in understanding the difficulty of the trail. I was shocked at how much stuff was delegated to Amanda’s raft in comparison to the others which required my nephew and I to hike up the half mile stretch with the eater jug and the heavy trash bin and come back down to continue helping. My nephew ended up not coming back down bc due to a lack of aqua socks shoe sizes offered at S.E. He had to go down two shoe sizes and his poor feet were pouring out of the holes of his shoes with blisters by the time we finished hiking up that first stretch. Once a lady in our group got to the top of the hike, she yelled at him for not coming back down to help...Again, this was just a crappy time. I most definitely will not be using this company if we decide to do the...
Read moreWe just returned from the overnight rafting trip and had an absolute BLAST! Our rafting guides Sam (day 1) and Chip - the guide lead (day 2) were skilled, experienced and so much fun! 25 years ago, Rick and I did this same trip when we were dating! It was so much fun to relive it with our kids!
We were served lunch each day on the beautiful banks of the Cattooga River. Our overnight group camped at the Chattooga Sounds Camp run by a lovely couple Greg and Janice that served us a delicious dinner and breakfast the next morning before we headed out for day 2 of our trip. Even Greg blaring the Star Spangled Banner at top volume at 7am to wake us all up for breakfast was hilarious!🤣🤣
The manager of SE Geoff is fabulous! So friendly, inviting and down to earth - working behind the scenes and in the trenches making sure everything ran smoothly and his guests were having a great time!
Other notable mentions are Chris, Austin and Stefan. Chris who is the other rafting guide leader is so skilled, a true leader and so much fun! He even took Alex and Haley on a beer run from our campsite when we realized we were running low! Austin is another guide who’s job was to help cook all of us dinner and breakfast. Such a sweet and kind young man with an infectious smile and heart! And Stefan - an incredibly skilled kayaker was kayaking along side, front and back all the rafts and his role was for safety. If someone fell out of the raft, his job was to help them to safety. Luckily, he didn’t have to help anyone on our trip.
I can not say enough about our incredible experience with Southeastern Expeditions and their incredible staff! We will definetly be making this an annual event for our family!
Thank you Geoff, Chris, Chip, Sam, Austin, Stefan, Greg, Janice and the entire SE staff for all you do to to give people a white water experience of a lifetime! You...
Read moreSpent this past weekend with my 13 year old son, his best buddy and his brother and their father. The five of us did the two day, overnight trip down the Chatooga. Simply put, the folks at SEE were top notch in all respects and we had a blast.
We put in on Sat morning around 9 - our guide was Molly, and she was exceptional - very knowledgeable but also a great person with cool, fun personality. She versed us on safety and stressed it throughout, so I never worried for my safety or more importantly that of the three 13 year old boys on the trip. All of the other guides were the same - knowledgeable, engaged and very personable. We were off of the river around 2 on Sat, and spent the rest of the day lounging and playing in the river at our campsite which was ably set up and manned by Tim and Carson, who were both excellent as well.
Sat night Tim and Carson made us a great dinner, which we ate around the camp fire, and Molly even came back to hang with us (and made a most necessary adult beverage run for us on her way back as well!) We had a blast around the fire, and awoke on Sunday to a killer full breakfast that Tim cooked up before hitting the river again. Most importantly, Tim and Carson - and Molly as well - were terrific with our kids - they engaged with them, helped them fish and overall made it a great weekend for the boys and us.
While not inexpensive, upon reflection I believe that it was money very well spent - in this day and age when our kids spend too much time on computers, phones, etc., it was terrific to spend a weekend with my son in such a pristine setting with the great folks and new friends from SEE. I fully intend to do it again (and I forgot to mention that the Chatooga is spectacular and challenging, with great rapids, cliff jumping and waterfalls to experience. Do the overnight trip - you won't be...
