There are two parking lots at the north gate of Mount Diablo State Park. One is at the entrance gate and one is at the Mount Diablo Summit Museum. The summit parking lot is the upper parking lot. It is not that big and gets filled quickly during peak hours. Fortunately, we got to park our car at the upper parking lot. There is a restroom at the parking lot and it is the beginning of hiking trails too. Just from the parking lot, you can see the stunning mountain view.

We went to see the wildflowers & also just because we’d never been! So beautiful & green this time of year - & so many poppies!! We drove to the top, looked through visitor center, walked around - gorgeous views AND we got to stand on the Summit of Mt Diablo itself♥️. Highly recommend visiting this park & strongly suggest going midweek, the road is very curvy & shared with bicyclists. Lots of picnic areas & pit toilets. We had no trouble finding parking.

Great hike but challenging. We started at the summit and hiked the Summit Trail. It is a great 2.8 mile loop. The start of the hike goes downhill then we hiked back up. The trail was hard going down because of the loose gravel (I slipped and hurt my knee) and it was a steep climb back up. My All Trails app calculated a 978 ft climb. I forgot my trekking poles in the car but I will definitely bring them next hike. My goal is to hike the entire 3849 ft.
