Took my 2 youngest (ages 17 & 20) skiing at Elk Mountain today and was not blown away by the reviews I saw about rental process on the actual mountain so I decided to do some investigation. First I did my due diligence and phoned Elk and spoke with their rental department and was informed first come first serve and they didn’t open until 830am which is when the lifts start. Since the place closes at 430pm and we were coming from 3 hrs away we wanted to maximize our day and the earlier opening was a deciding factor. I also found another off mountain shop and I decided that Idle Wild maybe fit us better, they had Max the dog, and he greeted us at the door at 801am So after some quick paperwork, wish we could have done it online prior, but that’s a minimal inconvenience, the guys asked the important questions, set us up with awesome equipment for the day and sent us on our way. Well we had a great day, the conditions were great but the equipment set up was even better. Zero issues and perfect. So at 4:05 pm we were ready for our last run when I asked the lift operator if we could get 1 more lift to get back to the lodge after our “final run” and he said I’ll make sure of it. We got to the shop at 4:58 pm and the guys were interested in our day, how we felt about the set up etc. What a great experience we had for the day and the equipment we rented at Idle Wild was a big part of it. This place is the best and they got great dogs Thanks again...
Read moreI couldn't be more delighted with the boots and service I received at Idlewild. I'd been in search of snowboard boots with a comfortable fit for my wide feet for weeks. Multiple ski shops, dozens of boots and hours of frustration later, I'd finally settled on a pair of men's boots that didn't cause me pain while walking around the shop. On my way to the mountain, I stopped in at Idlewild to get them heat molded. Thank goodness for Bill's expertise and incredibly patient manner. In less than 30 minutes, he taught me more about boot fit than I was able to uncover through all those visits to other ski shops and hours of searching on Google, AND he had helped me choose just the right boot for my feet. He took the time to dial in a perfect-for-me fit (upgraded foot bed, customized toe box, molded liners) that easily made for my best day of riding yet. This is definitely the place to go for service and equipment from pros who are knowledgeable and passionate about...
Read moreI've been in and out of countless ski shops over the past 20 years and Idlewild is THE BEST by far.
I took a new pair of skis there to do a binding swap. This is directly after picking that same set up from another shop where they sat for a week with no progress.
The strange thing is you won't realize how sub par these other shops are until you go here. Rather than keeping the tuning, shop in the basement like everybody else it's part of the store area and don't be surprised if you find yourself in there answering questions and seeing how they are setting you up for success on the slopes.
They are also knowledgeable. They knew more about my newly purchased skis than me AND the shop that sold them to me combined AND better yet, they didn't even sell this ski.
Great customer service, great knowledgebase and you will leave excite and ready to...
