For years my wife and mother have bought trees, plants, shrubs…you name it, from Broadwell’s Nursery in Angier, North Carolina. We’re not master gardeners but we’ve had a decent success rate with their plants. Due to some lack of experience on my wife’s part, some of the plants have gotten HUGE. This week was my first visit. Every member of the staff I spoke with were friendly and KNOWLEDGEABLE on everything they had to offer. Addison, Angie and Dino were all very helpful. It’s a simple business model that more businesses should try. The nursery is huge. I was buying for the area around a dry riverbed I’ve recently constructed. I finally got the Japanese Maple I’ve wanted. It’s the Tamukeyama variant. Addison gave me some great advice on picking the type I was describing to him. I picked up a few plants for down by the lake we live on as well. And not to forget I grabbed several of this small rose bush that are very aromatic. I skipped several other nursery type businesses on my drive to Broadwell’s. I filled my suv a few times and feel like the prices are fair. They do only accept cash and local checks but they have an ATM onsite. Give them a shot. I think...
Read moreThere are three nurseries all right in a row, in Angier. And I went to one of the other nurseries for some shrubs and they were very unpersonable, unfriendly and not helpful. I think they deal with landscapers and not the general public, and would prefer to not help with advice or education at all. Which is fine, But I was looking for more since I have no idea what bushes would be good for my situation.
However, I went next door to broadwells, and had a completely opposite experience! The workers were incredibly helpful there and very friendly and warm and welcoming to the general public. Addison answered all of my questions, and helped me figure out which plan I needed for my situation. He was wonderful! Also, there was a wonderfully helpful man named Andreas, who helped me pick out the right bushes and which bushes looked better and for what reasons. He was very friendly and welcoming, and did not talk down to me at all. I had a great experience at broadwells and would go back...
Read moreAs context, I'm in Wilmington and have a project of landscaping the common area of a development in Raleigh in October 2020. So I'm sending out RFP's to nurseries. Broadwell's is convenient to Raleigh but over an hour and thirty from Wilmington. So my RFP process is a function of web site reviews, email and phone calls.
After initially having difficulty getting in touch with anyone there, I did receive a call back and have been communicating by email. So my initial rating of one star is edited to four star based on the team's reach out and responsiveness since their returned call and their pricing. I plan a trip to Raleigh over the next two weeks and will visit the nursery on the way up to see product quality and meet the folks in person.
I plan to provide a more complete review after that visit and experience with the team. I'm hoping for a five...
