It's a beautiful river that runs through my city's downtown area. I live in Dayton, Ohio where the Great Miami meets four other rivers: The Stillwater, the Mad river, Wolf Creek, and Twin Creek. In the the early 1900's there was a massive flood of all these rivers. After which the Miami Conservancy District was started. They construted five dams to prevent this from happening again. Out of this grew the Five Rivers Metropark system, giving Dayton one of the best park systems in the country as far as I'm concerned. Each dam has it's own massive park with so much to do! There's bird watching (I've seen Bald Eagles and Osprey,) fishing, kayaking(with white water rapids,) bike, horse, and hiking trails, ice staking in the winter. So much to do out in nature on, in, and around the Great Miami River, in...
Read moreA beautiful but very very dangerous River. Its very good for catfish and smallmouth bass as well as whitebass and even your occasional hybrid striper. Do not let the water fool you with it's calm look. It is generally a shallow River system but it has some very deep pools and a lot of undercut banks with even more submerged debris just waiting to snag your arms or legs and hold you under. People die in this river every year. Ive fished it for over 30 years without any incidents, but I Do Not Swim or Wade. The Whitewater River is only miles away and absolutely wonderful for swimming, wading, and fishing. I really need to stress the importance of how dangerous this river can be... DO NOT SWIM IN THIS RIVER. Stay on the bank or in your boat and enjoy the fishing.... and...

There are also bike repair stations and shops. So worth...
