This past weekend we had a terrible experience at Coloma Lanes while trying to host my six-year-old daughter's birthday party. A couple of weeks ago, I called to inquire about party options. The young man who answered was polite and did his best to help, but it was clear he wasn’t entirely familiar with the process. Even so, I decided to book lanes, wanting to support a local business, especially one that recently reopened. He explained they didn’t have party packages but offered a discount for a few games, which worked fine for us.
On the day of the party, my mother-in-law arrived early. She called us, upset and shaken, because the owner had become aggressive when she asked about where the party would be. We over heard him getting loud, swearing, and kicking her out on the phone while she called us and was trying to find out what was going on. The owner told her there was a tournament happening and our reserved lanes wouldn’t be available for another three hours. This was news to us, as no one had called or notified me in advance of the issue. My mother-in-law, who was there with her adult autistic son, was understandably upset and confused.
When my wife and I arrived to sort things out, the owner was at the counter. We calmly asked about the mix-up and why my mother-in-law had been treated so poorly. Instead of apologizing for the lack of communication or offering any solutions, he became defensive and rude. When my wife asked why he was swearing at her mother, he falsely accused my mother-in-law of being aggressive and putting her hands in a waitress’s face. This is completely untrue—she’s a 70-year-old woman who was simply waiting for a child’s birthday party with her son.
As we tried to discuss the situation further, the owner became increasingly belligerent. Realizing there was no point in continuing, I pulled my wife toward the door. On our way out, he started taunting her, swearing at us, and yelling to leave while being held back by his employees. To make matters worse, some of the drunk patrons nearby cheered him on.
Because of this, we had to scramble to find a new location for the party at the last minute, which was extremely stressful. I wanted to support this local business, but after the owner’s unprofessional, rude, and hostile behavior—especially in front of my mother-in-law and her autistic son—I cannot recommend Coloma Lanes under its current management. If this is how they treat their customers, they won’t stay in business long. Save yourself the frustration and take your...

Read moreWitnessed the owner kick out a 70 yr old woman today when she showed up for a reserved birthday party for her grand child. The bowling alley cancelled the reservation with no notice to the family. When the person showed up to actually check in for the reservation, they were also kicked out. The owner went as far to follow them outside while being disrespectful in tone and foul mouthed! I will never step back in this bowling alley and urge others to go where you will be...
