Barb’s Produce is a Nor Cal gem and an absolute must-visit if traveling up Hwy 20 past downtown Colusa. I’ve been coming here for fruit for over 25 years and Barb is the sweetest host when we visit. This small, family-owned and run stand not only offers the BEST Asian pears and juiciest peaches among a wide variety of other fruits (seasonally), but it also supports local non-profit groups and agriculture in a way that is truly heartwarming. Barb was a teacher in Colusa county for over 40 years. She and her husband Dan believes in giving back to their community while enthusiastically operating their ranch and fruit stand with the help of a few local employees.
The produce here is hand-picked and to comment on another’s review, if you want perfect fruit (aka genetically grown and modified fruit), this isn’t your place. Every effort is made to pick and pack with the best practices but you might get a bump or bruised fruit occasionally. There’s something special about buying fruit right from under the tree it grew on — it just tastes better.
What really sets this farm stand apart, though, is their commitment to the local community. The stand goes beyond just offering food; it’s a hub for education and community involvement. They offer programs that teach kids about where their food comes from and why supporting local agriculture is important. In addition, they supply fresh produce to local schools, ensuring that the next generation is nourished with quality, locally-grown food.
It’s also clear that the owners are passionate about giving back. They host events, workshops, and partnerships that help strengthen the local food network, and they always seem to be looking for ways to make a positive impact. The money you spend here isn’t just going to a family business; it’s reinvesting into the whole community and the local food system. If you haven’t checked it out yet, I highly recommend...

Barbs Produce is located inside the O'Connell Ranch in Colusa California.
I have driven by this place and few times and finally visited today!
Today they were putting out a ton of fresh persimmons. Starting in July they have fresh Asian pears....peaches..nectarines and more!
I decided to pass on the persimmon ( my mom used to make persimmon cookies) and bought a jar of almond stuffed olives.
It's a cute place with super friendly employees. The lady that was so helpful was Carina ( I think ). Its off of Brown Road and the stand is towards the back of the road ( well marked).
I hope to come back in july for freshly picked fruit!...
Read moreBarbs produce was $2.60 a pound no matter what you got. Staff wasn't very friendly. Price was high compared to the store, even though we were getting it directly from the farm and they had no transportation cost. Produce was on the sad side....
