I have been going to Buffalo Ridge Recreation center since it opened. Yesterday I was treated with such extreme disrespect I left the facility in tears. My membership fees and taxes help pay for the operation of your facility and the incident I experienced yesterday was inexcusable. I was using the lazy river during clearly defined and documented adult swim time. This was also when swim lessons were being given. However, I hesitate to even call it a lesson because absolutely no instruction was taking place. I paid for my 5 grandchildren to attend semi-private swim lessons for many years and would have been angry and felt cheated out of the good money paid for lessons if I had witnessed this situation . The two male instructors and several of the female instructors decided they had no intention of instructing their students and made the time a total free for all. They came into the lazy river and ran into me multiple times before I asked politely to speak to a manager. Not only did you or whoever the working manager was at the time not take a precious 15 minutes out of their busy day to come talk to me; you sent another lifeguard to tell me they would have the children move out of the lazy river. The next hour not only did not improve, but I was subjected to both instructors and children from the lessons glaring and pointing at me. Making rude comments the entire time I was there. Several children made comments about the fat old lady leaving the lazy river so now they could play. This is not behavior children would do on their own. This is learned behavior they took these cues from there instructors. If I was a manager of your facility and was made aware of this situation, I would have at the very least taken time out of my day to make sure your lifeguards realized that behavior would not be tolerated, and the next incident would result in termination. I have every intention of sending accounts of this situation to every manager and board member of your facility I can find. I will be using every social media platform I can find to make sure the community is aware of how poorly your...
Read moreI do like alot of the new touches and the staff are friendly n helpful. That said it is definitely not handicap/elderly friendly. Yes, there are accessible doors, a shower stall and a lift for the pool, plenty of parking too but the walk from the handicap parking to even the front door is very far. There are benches anlong the way but they are metal, and uncovered to the sun so are too hot to rest on. It would have been better to not have so many plants on one side of the entrance and put handicap parking 100 feet closer to the doors. Also the seating inside the lobby is hard to get to if you have a wheelchair, the only chair/couch with arms to push up from has a heavy coffee table blocking it in. The elevator is nice. The locker room is beautiful, but the showers have very little water pressure and the curtains aren't wide enough to cover the whole bathing area. It would also be nice if there was a small shelf for shampoo ect so users don't have to put them on the floor. I would also recommend a grab bar and a shower head that can be hand held in all the showers to make it easier for everyone (shower pressure wouldn't be so bad if you could spray where you need to). I like that there is large mirrors with shelves and outlets, very handy. I would have liked a ringer too- I've seen them at other rec centers, you can spin the water out of your suit ect- they help alot. The pool is nice- for kids, not adults as there is always alot of jumping in the water, splashing others ect. The lazy river would be enjoyable if no one else was constantly running into you (usually a child) and the lap area is limited to 3 lanes which if you can get a lane (12p-2p) is nice as it cuts down on being knocked around. I did like that there were more lifeguards, who were very nice and helpful. I think if you are young and healthy this is a nice facility. If you are elderly and/or disabled, not a great choice to visit. Be prepared to walk great distances to the front entrance, across a long/large lobby, and quite a walk to get into the locker room as well. The pool is a decent temperature but can be...
Read moreWhere do I start. When the pool is “open” it truly isn’t since they block off half the pool for lap swim/swim lessons. So you’re segregated to the lazy river and slide area which isn’t a lot of space to accommodate people. Especially during the summer months when you want to cool off. Basketball courts are always closed for tournaments. The gym is always packed so you’re having to wait to use equipment. The good afternoon classes are always full so it’s not motivating to workout in a tiny room with a bunch of people. Daycare options aren’t accommodating at all. The pricing is way too high and they aren’t able to take your kids unless they are at least 6 months of age. Forget trying to bounce your body back to pre-birth until after 6 months. Sure it seems like a big facility at first, but once you realize the areas you are confined to, it’s not worth it. Last but not least, let’s comment on customer service. I’m going to call out the front manager Alexis? The three interactions I’ve had with this lady I swear it’s like she’s on a power trip. Had a situation and the way she handled it was just so unprofessional. She’s “by the book” but when asking her to cancel my membership she failed to follow protocol. She picks and chooses when she wants to go by the book I guess. Took me multiple correspondences to get my membership canceled which is ridiculous since only 2 people in the whole facility have the authority to cancel your membership. I thought the reasoning behind this was to rebuttal to prevent cancelling. Nope, it’s not the case, so I’m not sure why they make you jump through hoops to cancel. On the Next Door app, an employee was being so rude when a resident commented on the pool never being open. Not asking to be treated like I’m at a country club but geez, it’s just asking for a little decency. Glad I’m not dumping unnecessary money into this facility anymore. The only reason why I gave this facility two stars is because Heather (the instructor) was always so personable and nice. Hope she reads this and knows we will...
