My children reported being inappropriately touched by another student—one incident involved contact in private areas. While the school followed protocol by notifying the district, what followed was a disgrace.
Kristy Avila, the Civil Rights Officer and Title IX Coordinator, was dismissive, condescending, and shockingly unprofessional. When I expressed concern over my daughter’s case, she laughed—yes, laughed—during a conversation about sexual harassment involving a child. Her behavior was unacceptable and inexcusable.
I filed a formal complaint. Leanee Medina Estrada concluded Ms. Avila did nothing wrong (Her word against mine). When I appealed, Laura Juranek told me the board made a final decision without even hearing my side. The message was clear: the district will protect its staff at all costs, no matter how they treat families.
