Ok, here's the story. So my harddrive fell out of my bag and afterwards wouldn't show up on the computer. So I looked up harddrive repair and found IQ. There was about a $100 non refundable deposit to go towards repairs should I decide to get repairs. I was told it needed more extensive work done to retrieve the data and he would have to send it out to another company to retrieve the data. A couple weeks later I'm told the data can be retrieved, but it will cost about $1100. Of course I said no way, but my issue is, I figured the problem had to be fixed from the inside and because of the drop it was probably a component that had been jarred loose, but if a company claims to be able to repair harddrives and the harddrive can be repaired, then why do they not have the expertise to do it because after all that's what I paid for, but to charge for something that can be repaired, but you just don't know how to do it is ridiculous.

That's like taking a car to a transmission place only for them to tell you they don't have the expertise to fix it, even though they say they fix transmissions and then still charging you just for them trying.

I guess they're just good for driver type software download repairs, but if you drop something I would definitely not take it here.

For another car analogy I would say it's like someone who does electrical world telling u they can repair your engine.

Revision..I have a better understanding now after speaking with Marcus. I understand it takes more extensive work that he was able to do, therefore the HD had to be sent to his partners facilities and the use of expensive equipment along with parts needed to be able to retrieve the data was necessary. I didn't realize it was a partnership effort, BUT I still don't believe that this warrants such a high cost. Although we came to an agreement on a partial refund I still have a damaged HD that I still didn't get the data recovered from. I think it might be cheaper to take some data recovery classes and learn how to do it myself. He is a nice guy and very professional and I believe he did try. I'm revising my 1 star to 3 stars.

Let me add 1 more thing. If ur HD suddenly stops working, then I might suggest taking it here, because it maybe a software driver issue, BUT it u DROP ur HD don't bother, because that is not a software problem. I would exercise some common sense, No amount of software will ever repair a dropped harddrive. That has to be opened up up to make operational for the data...

My trusty laptop of 7 years was starting to die on me, and I desperately needed it to be repaired ASAP. IQ Services reached out so fast after I had put out a request on Yelp, and then they even picked it up from me! Marcus was a gem and helped send over some files that I wasn't able to back up before handing him my laptop. He definitely went above and beyond. He was extremely responsive, and I got my laptop back and sheeee isss looking cutee!!! It's like I have a brand-new laptop.

To be transparent with costs and services: I paid for a diagnosis ($99), a new battery ($52) and repairs/replacements for my keyboard, webcam, computer screen, and whatever else was messed up ($399). Even though it seemed like a lot, it really is not when you think about the context.

—I got to keep my 7-year-old computer that I LOVE, and now it feels brand new. A new laptop with the exact same processor/ram would've killed my bank account. I also live in NYC usually, and I KNOW this would've been WAY more. —I know NOTHING about fixing computers. While I can do YouTube searches to do minor software troubleshoots, I don't even know how to open up a laptop to see what's inside. —They're professionals who have gained years of knowledge, education, and experience to be able to do this. It might seem like a couple days of work, but it's years of time and money put into learning this craft. —I didn't have to leave my home. There was no driving to a store or finding time to pick it up. It's like DoorDash but with your computer. —They're family-owned, Black-owned, and veteran-owned. Stop giving Apple or whatever corporation your money!! Shop small and shop local. Invest in your community.

One super minor thing that I wish ALL computer repair services did: I do wish they had loaner laptops or something available because I had to scramble to find a laptop to use in...

Marcus and his team have the expertise of brain surgeons in dealing with computers and Iphones. It is is an incredible relief to find honest, competent help in this technological jungle we live in.

I had 60K photos from a once in a lifetime cruise to Antarctica on my Iphone 11. I foolishly had not backed them up, and then the phone suddenly locked up without warning. That meant it would power and light up but would not grant me access, much less allow me to copy the photos.

The Apple technicians said I was out of luck. They could reset the phone but that would obliterate the photos.

With previous models of the IPhone one could apparently retrieve the data in such a situation, but in its infinite wisdom the Apple strategists decided to make this process nearly impossible with the IPhone 11.

So I was screwed, and Apple could have cared less. But Marcus had access to sophisticated consultants who were able to save my photos.

I will be loyal and grareful...
