We chose to try out Kingās North after deciding to join the golf Passport program we were eligible for as local full time residents. We are members at another local golf course community we live in, but wanted 2024/2025 to be the year to go back out and try different courses in the area we hadnāt played in a long while.
Kingās North has some interesting holes. The greens were in nice shape. The charge using the local resident Passport card was $94 per person. Range balls were $5 more. This was a 2:20pm tee time. Pace of play pretty slow, 4 hr 50 min round on a Thursday. Did not feel the total experience was worth the cost for the day. Hereās why: Carts are in rough shape and rumble under the chassis. No GPS on carts. No water service. Maybe thereās a working water fountain somewhere, didnāt find one. Other golfers had coolers. We received a bag for buying 6 beers with a little ice in it that melted long before ever seeing the beverage cart again. Beverage cart says not enough ice available, must have been used up on everyone elseās personal cooler fill ups. They should arrive with ice if they are allowed this cooler privilege. Would have brought my own cooler if I knew.I asked about these coolers to the starter, how to get one, he said they must all be personal coolers, because they donāt offer any coolers with the cart. Saw one ranger in the round, he doesnāt have water either. Slow turn service at food and beverage. Bought no more beer, since we canāt keep it cold. Looks like thereās 1 beverage cart girl for multiple courses ? Saw her twice in the 5 hours. That further explained the coolers people āin the knowā had with them. The icing on the cake to this experience was when the last 4 holes of play involved playing golf while old men on their personal golf carts had their dogs on the course. One guy was exercising his dog off leash, having the dog jog behind his cart joy riding around the course. Another guy was shagging balls while his yipper dog was leashed onto his personal golf cart in the middle of the golf hole, really?? Called it in to the pro shop, but that dog never shut up before we were done playing! Not impressed, wonāt...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis morning 12-7-2022, I played at the Arnold Palmer designed @myrtlebeachnationalgolf on the "King's North" course. I was partnered up with an older gentleman from Tulsa. He's a retired American Airlines Mechanic and personable guy named Stan.
Course: We started on the back 9 as the first persons out. It's the off-season here in M.B. but you wouldn't know it by the conditions of the course. The Fairways were in great shape but didn't roll out for us. The sand in the bunkers was soft. No having to judge what your club was going to do. The greens were in excellent shape but tricky to read. Not everything breaks the way it looks. It's a rather confusing thing. They were slow because of the rain the night before, but git quicker as the morning rolled on.
There are signature holes, an Island Par 3 number 13 with bunker short and long that have zero room for error. The other is the Par 5 6th with 2 Fairways. One is the safe one but will leave a long iron/hybrid or fairway wood into it. The other is a narrow island fairway, leaving you a mid to shirt iron into a peninsula green. It gas water on 3 sides a large hill behind it. The last is the Par 4 18th hole. It features 40 bunkers from the start of the fairway to the green. Water also runs down the last 1/4 on the right side.
Staff: What can I say? The proshop was great, but the real star is the North starter. He was upbeat, funny, and super engaging.
Final: I highly recommend MBN. If you play any of the 3 courses, it should be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEvery year between 20-28 of us get together and go on a golfing trip to myrtle beach NC. at ledgends resort and its awesome.... We always play a round at an off campus course and this particular year we chose myrtle beach national kings course north... when I made the reservation the price was 85$ per player when we checked in with 16 players it was 90$, the 5$ is not the issue but I thought I would mention because of the issue at hand... Most people can agree that when you play a course a lot of the judgement of how well the course plays is the greens... So here's the issue, the greens were just dressed with sand and were very bumpy and slick but when we checked in the pro shop said they were sanded but shouldn't affect anything... ( I was like mmm not sure that makes sense) but ok let's play... needless to say we paid 90$ to play a signature course and the greens were horrible... it's a shame because its probably a great place to play and we will NOT go back....
Mike Dunford: I see this msy be their mo, get the money...
