I got there a little later than I wanted to, thanks to my kids, so I arrived about 20 minutes before my tee time; I didnโt get a chance to warm up. When I arrived I was immediately asked to join a twosome. I hadnโt even got to the pro shop yet to ask for a caddy. I asked if there was a caddy available as I was indecisive the day before while I was on the road there, then forgot to call to ask the night before. They said it would take a while and didnโt know if they could get one at all. So I felt pressured to hop on.
After a terrible first hole, I felt abandoned when the twosome left to play on with their caddy. At the time, I didnโt mind, but when I got to the second tee box I was engulfed in fog and literally had no idea where I was. My range finder could only see 20yds, for reference. Without a map, I called the pro shop and for some reason, caddyโs were available nowโฆ Go figure.
So the next group is coming when my caddy arrives and we explained what was going on and the Marshall guy said to continue to play. I hit the green on my second shot and as soon as I stepped foot on the green the caddyโs began yelling at me - Wht are you doing?! get the hell out of here and get the F off the green!! Meanwhile, the group on the hole ahead were still on the green. We were just doing what we were told to do. The other Marshall, instead of asking if Iโd move to the 4th hole just barked that we had to get to pace.
A starter was driving my partner to me so she could walk the course, now that our kids had a sitter - she told me the caddyโs waved them down and confronted them. said I was clueless!! in front of my girl, in a rude tone.
My caddy was hit and miss, sometimes was helpful, sometimes seamed like he just didnโt really want to be there. I wouldnโt normally do this, but when you pay $550, you kind of expect a white glove special experience. Ive been treated better and felt more a part of โthe gameโ at $15 municipal courses. I felt like a burden instead of a guest. Try playing your best and having fun after thatโฆ
It was a last minute opportunity to be able to do this and I guess I had an expectation of what it could be like.. maybe it was my fault for having too high of expectations, or, the culture of this place contradicts what their marketing videos lead on. It is what it is at this point. If you come play here, manage your own...
ย ย ย Read moreIt twas a sunny Saturday afternoon, 75 degrees, no wind and a touch of cloud coverage. We started the round with a demolition derby on the pastrami melt - whispers in the air could be heard "this may be the best sandwich these taste buds have ever come in contact with". We then switched our attention to the double vodka lemys and kept them rolling like a young Mark Hanna on a Wednesday Wall Street lunch session. Our caddies were nervous for what was to come, but little did they know that we perform like Spartacus going into the Third Servile War when we see those double white balls come in contact with the all too rare, p790 carbon steel clubhead. The legs were numb at this point and the cackles could be heard from hole 8 of Bandon Trails, but then something magical happened.....my buddy Z caught fire. 20 ft sliders one second, 300 yard bombs the next, and the climactic chip in from the back trap of 18....crowd went absolutely berserk, caddies hugging, even screaming "I've never seen someone make it from there!!!!". This ladies and gentleman was the day my good friend, father of 3, college football guru, Z...
ย ย ย Read moreSheep Ranch is the newest course at the Bandon Dunes golf resort and it's also my favorite. I think most golfers who play it will find it their favorite course at Bandon Dunes and one of the most favored courses they've ever played! You have nine holes that overlook the cliffside of the Pacific Ocean. You have eagles and osprey and harriers swooping by as you play your game. The scenery and vistas are unmatchable and frequent! In addition the staff and the Marshalls on course keep things moving smoothly so you rarely wait at your next T-Box. I also think the Sheep Ranch is a great course to score really well. There are no sand traps, rather they are grass straps with taller grass in them and the fairways are large, long and wide. It's amazing and VERY enjoyable to play! For most it will prove an unforgettable experience...
