I have always liked going to Graf Growers to purchase plants for my flower pots and landscaping, mostly for their quality and guarantee for one year....until this season when I actually had to return a spirea plant. We had spoke to Scott Graf the weekend before by chance and didn't know who he was at the time but said we were concerned about one of the two we bought that it was dying in the center and we were just going to wait to see if it came back. He told us he would rather us wait a week and if it wasn't getting better to just bring it back. We did wait and it started looking really bad when the neighbor plant was flowering pretty purple this one wasn't and was getting worse. So took it in Sunday and some guy came to look at it and started giving me hard time about how I either let it die or watered it too much, tried to tell him the neighbor plant wasn't even 3 ft away and was doing great...then proceeded to tell me I shouldn't water them at the same time and how he's just telling me this because it's no fun for them to have plants returned. I was so frustrated by the time I left that store I may never return and start going to the growers. The owner and other ladies at Graf have always been helpful in answering questions and giving guidance on what to plant where, but this one encounter has ruined...
Read moreI purchased a plant from this vendor, Graf Growers, at their mobile flower truck while it was at the Van Aken District Cleveland Flea. I purchased a string of beads and brought it home. An hour later, I decided to plant it in my succulent plant, and saw that it was covered in mealybugs. These weren't hitchhikers either, they had nymphs in their nests on the bottom of the pot too. Mealybugs can wreck plants and are very hard to control once there is an outbreak. They can spread very quickly to other plants. and they have to be thrown away if you can't delicate a lot of time to eradicating an infestation. I was so fortunate to have spotted them right before I planted them with my other plants. I would expect for a company who over prices their plants at the very minimum to inspect their plants before they set them out for purchase. I had to run all the way back to the event to return the plant. I was also very concerned that the other string of beads weren't immediately removed for further inspection. Instead one of employees said she felt fortunate that other plants weren't stored near my infected one. There is no way the outbreak was that advanced on only my small pot crammed next to other plants. I will not make the mistake again of purchasing from Graf's Garden, at their mobile truck...
Read moreI purchased what were supposed to be 2 “Julia Rose” Itoh Peonies a few years ago. It was the end of the season, so they let them go for 1/2 price ($50 each). I did not ask for the sale, it was offered.
Well, one bloomed last spring - come to find out it was mislabeled & is in fact a Bartzella. I called and asked if I could switch it out, but was informed that since it was on sale - I’d have to pay the difference… that didn’t seem right to me. So I decided to just be ok with 1 Julia Rose & transplant the Bartzella else where.
Well…. My surprise when my last hope at a Julia Rose bloomed today as it did not bloom last year… It was also mislabeled as a Julia Rose, but is in fact a Cora Louise…
So both of them were mislabeled. I’m bummed that Grafs won’t let me switch them. Bc I wouldn’t have even purchased these peonies if I had known they weren’t the Julia Rose. I understand not wanting to lose revenue, but a mistake is a mistake & I would’ve liked to see it corrected properly.
Because of the way things were handled when I had called regarding the Bartzella, I was already iffy regarding returning to Grafs. But this new bloom just pushed me to no longer patronize Grafs. The way the situation was handled doesn’t sit...
