I usually don't make posts like this, but I am so hurt and disappointed and don't wish anyone else to have the same experience I had. So, I found a new fur baby @Knox Whitley humane society and fell in love. She was exactly the little kitten I had been waiting for to add to my feline family after losing my youngest cat earlier this year and I was ecstatic I had found her. Unfortunately, she was under 12 weeks old and hadn't been fixed yet. I attempted to go ahead and adopt her and was told, "we do not pre-adopt under 12 weeks old due to possible surgical complications." I understood this and asked if they would take my name and number to let me know when she would be ready. They immediately refused. Instead, I was instructed to "check back on Tuesdays to see if she would be fixed and ready." So, I kept checking in weekly and even sent them a message once checking on her. I went last Friday to check again to see if she was ready, because I am unable to go any other day due to their hours and my work schedule. When I got there, she was gone.... I. Was. Livid. An employee came up and repeated to me again, "we do not pre-adopt under 12 weeks old, blah blah blah." I told her I had been waiting and continuously checking to see if she was ready. This employee told me “She probably was shipped to PetSense in London or another pet sanctuary in New Jersey to be adopted."
Not only did I follow the rules these people told me, but no one also even had the decency to write my name and number down! I checked to see if she was at PetSense...no luck. So instead of letting someone local adopt this kitten they decide to ship her to New Jersey or another facility in which neither require them to be fixed? I feel it was not fair to me in any shape, form, or fashion. I will never go back to this place and can't encourage anyone else to either. They are all about "adopt don't shop" so why make it so difficult? I understand there may be complications during the surgical procedure to fix the animal. Just refund the money or apply it to another animal. It's just bad business to not allow people to pre-adopt or to ship them off when someone is willing to pay the adoption fee and actually wants them. The employees made me feel like an inconvenience on top of everything else and I have been so disappointed. I would have never wasted 3 weeks of my time waiting, wishing, and hoping if I knew this was going to...
Read moreSo disappointed in the staff that works for this shelter. A loved neighborhood dog and three of her four puppies were captured and transported to Knox-Whitley on the 20th of May. The animals were caught after lunch, maybe around noon or so. We aren't sure if she was dropped off the day of, or after. Our family waited for her (the mother) to be posted on the stray hold as we had decided to adopt her once she was posted. We called on that Friday (the 23rd) after she hadn't been posted, no answer. We then checked their official Facebook page to see they would be closed on Saturday (for the holiday weekend) so we wouldn't be able to go check and make sure she was brought to KW. Also closed on Sunday and Monday. We contacted the shelter on Tuesday (27th) as soon as they opened, the woman who answered didn't recognize the description of the dog. We were given an email to send her a photo. Once we emailed the photo, we were given a short reply:
"Was this your dog?"
Was?
We replied immediately, no answer.
So we call, thankfully they answered the phone. We were given the news that she had been euthanized. We are heart broken, and a bit taken aback that she was put down so quickly. We asked about her puppies and we were told that they were no longer with the shelter. The woman who was on the phone said she couldn't tell us if they had euthanized them as well. But my guess? They did just that. Why else would they not give us any information?
My question to these workers...
Why was she not posted so her family could come and retrieve her?
Your Facebook says you have a 5 day stray hold, before animals are posted for ADOPTION?
Why euthanize her WITHOUT posting her?
How can you count the three days you are closed (If you all waited that long, I seriously doubt it) as the five hold days?
How could you look at this kind and loving animal and decide she should die without being given a chance to go back home and be loved?
We are so very disappointed, devastated, disgusted, and hurt by the choices that lead to this decision.
Do better, or don't do it at all.
Her name was Nova, and she was...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. I'm not quite sure how this place has a 4.2 star rating online or even call themselves a Humane Society. I went with a friend to pick up a dog and upon entrying the smell is so atrocious that my eyes were watering. Upon going to the back the dogs in their kennels had soiled bedding/blankets and again the smell was beyond. This facility just had the poor girl spayed since my friend was adopting her. Mind you they had called prior to report that the dog was acting strangely and they thought the anesthetic may have caused her to be blind. This raised all kinds of red flags for me but to top it off the girl was in a filthy kennel area and once they brought her back to the private room with us she immediately started peeing and the workers response was that they have not had time today to take her out & she refuses to pee/poo in her kennel area. It was 1pm this poor girl had not been out the entire day after being spayed. At this point we just wanted to get the poor girl home. Once home she didn't want to move or get up- we immediately took her to the vet where we were told she is completely blind in 1 eye, her incision was a bit infected and she had a severe case of kennel cough. This facility is far from a reputable Humane Society and I'm shocked they can even use that name. This is a understaffed & beyond filthy "pound" make no mistake. Those dogs do not deserve to...
