The quartz here is covered with iron deposits and some other stuff I can't remember. It gives a very unique look to everything. In some cases I wouldn't even clean it off because it's just beautiful like it is. Beginners may have a difficult time finding crystals here. Also there is shale everywhere so be very careful because that stuff will slice you open and it's very sketchy to walk on. My suggestion for finding good stuff here is to kneel, crouch, or sit down and concentrate on the area within your reach. That goes for any of these places really. Bonus mentions here are there is shade which is hard to come by at the other mines. Also 4 picnic tables with one having a canopy over it. They offered tools for free in case you forget to bring your own. Return them when you're done. One portapotty is on site. Bring cash. It was $30 a person. After calling the number posted at the gate I was met there and let in, showed around a bit, signed a waiver, paid, and was asked to close the gate behind me when I left. I was there all day and had the place to myself the entire time. Overall it's a good time and I'll likely go back.

I’m not one to post reviews, but I had to give some praises to this place! Sweet Surrender is an absolutely amazing mining experience. Whether you’re a beginner or mine regularly, you will find something incredible! The reviewers that say you won’t find anything must have not done their research before arriving. There are great finds where the soil has been most recently turned over, but each time it rains sediment shifts as well...so there are crystals everywhere. Read up about how to dig and what to look for. The owners are wonderful and make the experience easy. $20 each, and you get to keep whatever you find. Remember sunscreen and bug spray, and bring gloves if you have sensitive hands. Bring an extra pair of clothes if you don’t want to get your car dirty. They have tools there you can use, but you can bring your own as well. Thank you so much, Sweet Surrender!

I had a great time mining for crystals at Sweet surrender crystal mine. Becky was very patient with all my questions and Aaron was very helpful in the day of mining. I was there in May 2025 and the regular access mining fee was $30 per person. I spent most of the day surface collecting and had several nice finds. I also chased a quartz vain for about an hour and a half and had a few crystals from there. Mining in the shale formation where these crystals grow was a little different, but just as fun, the iron and manganese concentrations give the crystals a very unique look. I will definitely be back.

First of all, let me say Sweet Surrender Crystal mine is hands down the best Crystal Mine in Arkansas!

I know I might sound a little biased but after reading my review you will see why. I've been going crystal mining annually every year since 2013 when I first discovered this amazing hobby. The first time I went back in 2013 I didn't know much about the area and I had just got into town after stopping by crater of diamonds state park to dig for a little while. After not discovering much there I didn't expect to come home with anything more than a few small crystals but I was still excited about digging nonetheless. After getting to our hotel room and doing my research everthing online suggested Colemans mine but it was closed that day so we asked a local at the Atlantis Crystal Shop next to the gas station about other mines and he mentioned Sweet Surrender. So we called them up and let them know we were coming and after a beautiful scenic drive to Story, AR we reached the sign at the entrance directing us to drive up a tiny dirt road to the mine. After a short bumpy trip we pulled up to a big hole in the middle of nowhere and started talking to the person working the mine. He showed us genuine southern hospitality and told us all about the mine, we proceeded to pay for our dig and then he provided us with buckets and some hand shovels and told us some tips on how to spot the crystals.

We got after it right away and in under fifteen minutes we dug up our first crystals. They were about the size of my fist and it was my first time experiencing the rush of mining, I was thrilled beyond belief! By the end of the day I had a bucket full of crystals! After that we had to return and by the end off our three day weekend we had about 4 buckets worth of crystals and an entire cluster ready to come home with me to Houston.

Everything about the mine was great, The people there were kind and down to earth, The mine was in great shape, and I found our that they are one of the only mines that doesn't use dynamite in their mine. The other mines were nice but they didn't leave the same lasting impression that digging at sweet surrender did and that's why I always choose to mine there.

I'd recommend this to everyone from the family's looking to bring the kids out to go mining to the actual miners themselves out there! If you do decide to visit sweet surrender I'll let you in a trick I use, If you stand at the top of the mine and look down you can spot crystals that are reflecting...

Our family (3 generations) went on 10/8/16. The experience was awesome for all of us! We had to stop after a couple of hours because we found so many crystals! Our son and family drove, but my husband and I flew...we had to buy two more suitcases! We took 75 lbs of crystals home with us! I was heartbroken at the large formations we had to leave behind. We are moving soon and will definitely be back with the truck! Tracy was wonderful. She helped us go through our loot when we took a break. She is so enthusiastic and genuinely excited about crystals and what we found. Randy was great. He handed us some nice clusters he found while walking toward us! It was fun chatting with him. Becky was wonderful, too. We only talked to her on the phone, but she was so pleasant, we knew we wanted to go to their mine. It was such a wonderful experience, I can't wait to go back with more of our kids. Tracy said they have a Facebook page and people post pictures of their crystals there. We have yet to look at it, but if you are on the fence,...
