It was about a 2 hour drive from Phoenix, but an incredibly scenic commute.
There's an utterly instagrammable lot of rustic, vintage cars right outside the "ghost town," which consisted of old buildings (homes, a school, stores) packed with antiques from the mining era. We're not history enthusiasts but you don't have to be to enjoy the abandoned town.
We spent over an hour exploring it and reading all the facts and backstories before we ventured back down the hill to the modern day town for lunch at Haunted Burger and shopping.
Maybe only a half day for kids because it's sort of like perusing a museum and not a ton of hands on engagement.

It’s sort of like a collection of antiques, which is kind of worth seeing if you like history and old stuff.
There are a few old buildings like the classroom and the boarding house.
Think about this ghost town is Jerome was like started in 1920 so it doesn’t feel like old West town. There’s like cars and antiques everywhere. In fact almost a little too much. It feels like just garbage everywhere.

Read moreThis ghost town has some really cool things to explore as you walk around. It's fairly small, but you could easily spend at least an hour wandering around and getting lost in the history.
As you're driving up to the town, turn left at the old tanker semi that says "ghost town" and continue up the road. Signs say the town begins as the gravel road begins, but there is a parking area further up the road at the town entrance which is a store.
