I have only been to the Country Store during the annual Maple Syrup Festival. I remember being convinced by the clerk to not buy 2 but 12 donuts, because "why wouldn't you?!" Never having done drugs, I can only imagine that the high and the desperate need for one more hit was someone like my experience after eating one donut ... quickly followed by two more on the way to the car. That's right, three donuts within 10 minutes of the purchase... It might have been 12 if the wife hadn't taken the box off me. I live over 20 hr drive from the Store but every year I seriously consider driving there for the Festival and staying the weekend, just for the donuts ... because why...
   Read moreNot much to see that was of interest. It use to be full of things of interest some years ago but it seems is half empty. Not sure what they can do about the strong musty odor. It's an old historic home or bldg with original floors & what seems to be very old shelving etc which produce the smell but it has character & could be quite the place to see in McDowell like it use to be. I hope they have plans to restore some of it & fill it with so many things of interest to a customer that likes visiting that part of the mountains & small towns.    Read moreThis little country store is nestled in the heart of taking you back to the "good ol' days". From fresh maple syrup straight from the trees just a miles away, local honey, snacks, old time candy, cooking utensils and a few simple toys and games for the kids.
Service is top notch every time. This was my 3rd visit. Most people aquant this store with the yearly Highlqnd Maple Festival which is scattered throughout the area. There is a museum next door that has history and information related to the McDowell Battlefield...
