Utterly beautiful waterfalls and fascinating rock formations. If it were easier to get to, I'd give it 5 stars.
DO NOT DRIVE ALL THE WAY IN!! We chose these falls due to the "easy-moderate" road/trail description in the tourist guide. The "easy-moderate" rating is for vehicle access, and while you can drive in a good distance in a car (we had a subaru outback), this is absolutely not recommended for anyone driving anything that isn't all wheel drive,. Be judicious, and find a turn around/parking the second you feel like the road is getting too bad for your vehicle/skills. As the "road/trail" goes on you will definitely need a lifted vehicle and off road driving skills. We drove in about 5-10 minutes from the main road and parked at the top of a hill that had visible wash outs/erosion in the middle of it. walked in for about 15 -20 minutes on the "road/trail", which was a moderate trail to navigate on foot. There was one part where vehicles who do make it thorough have an obvious turn around. There are several walking trails off this area. Take the trail with the firepit in the middle of it and go downhill another 5-10 minutes to see the falls. Another issue might be weekend access. I imagine this would be a popular road/trail for off-roading vehicles, and possibly would be impossible/dangerous to walk though at...
Read moreGoogle Maps will get you pretty much there. You will not be able to reach the parking lot entrance in a normal vehicle. You're going to need a bit of clearance to get down there. Even then, your best bet is to just park at one of the signs or at one of the pull-offs on the road. Lots of berry bushes on the way down. Looks like there was some recent beat claws into a tree at the top of the falls, or maybe someone just slinging a blade. Either way, this is bear country so be prepared. Beautiful falls, and one of only a select few in the area. One of my favorites in the state and every time I'm out there, I tend to stop for a few hours and a few visits!

Read moreDo not try going into Chicagon Falls unless you have good clearance, 4 wheel drive, good brakes, and dont mind if your car gets scratched. I did it in a 2008 nissan xterra, and she crawled right thru the whole trail. Either way, walking in or driving in it is definatly worth it. The water is so clear, and such a dramatic drop, its very relaxing being there. If you go there and get stuck, the gentleman at the end of the road (where you turn off the main road onto the dirt road to go back to the falls) he has a tractor and for a fee will...
