My husband Kevin and I began volunteering as dog walkers for the Hotel for Homeless Dogs on February 1, 2024. The Hotel is ideally located just steps from the Blackstone River Bike Path. โForest Bathingโ along the Blackstone is good for the dogs and good for people. The dogs are getting exercise and a change of scenery, as well as the humans that guide them. It is a major stress relief for both humans and canines. When the weather is inclement, especially on winter days, we take a dog or two for a joyride in the car and provide them with deep tissue massages, playtime and a โgrand adventureโ to a pet friendly store. What impresses Kevin and I the most is the welcoming atmosphere that the Hotel for Homeless Dogs provides. The neon signs (one is displayed outside the building), and one immediately when you enter is eye-catching and reminiscent of a sign that you would see at a classic hotel along the infamous Rte 66. The general manager, Miss Savannah Joseph, is always so hospitable to the volunteers and always takes the time for some meaningful conversation despite all of her responsibilities that she does so effortlessly on a daily basis. Furthermore, the Hotel and its landscaping is meticulously clean, decorated seasonally, and inviting to all. Kevin and I cannot give enough accolades to how well cared for the dogs are. The family dedicates their heart and soul to the mission of saving lives by operating a successful fostering and adoption program. Well done, Hotel for Homeless...
ย ย ย Read moreWhat a warm, beautiful, cheerful facility this is! I have never come across a shelter that feels as happy as this โhotelโ. The staff are incredibly friendly & caring and it is clear that they love ALL the dogs and the dogs love them. There are no crates. Each dog has itโs own enclosure (like a room) with a full clear door, a hole to poke their nose through and access to inside and outside at all times. All dogs have a raised cot with a cuddly bed atop. Bonded pairs and puppy litters are kept together. It is incredibly clean and has 3 additional homelike rooms for cuddling, ball play & socializing. There are 4 separate play yards and dogs are walked twice daily, typically on the beautiful Blackstone River bike path with both paved and unpaved woodsy trails. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities. Many giving individuals/families take the dogs for extended periods so doggies can socialize at home, work, stores or out hiking. You can follow the pups adventures on Instagram, Facebook & twitter & the videos are joyful, not depressing, which is often the case at other shelters. If you can adopt or donate love, time or materials this is an incredible worthy non profit! Check...
ย ย ย Read moreWe stumbled upon the Hotel for Homeless Dogs when we randomly met a woman who had just recently adopted a young pup from them. I immediately loved this womanโs pup - he was adorable & kind. I asked the woman where she got her new pup and she mentioned The Hotel for Homeless Dogs in RI โฆ and she said that her pupโs practically identical brother was supposed to be making his way to the hotel very soon. I immediately googled this rescue group, found โChewieโ as he was currently named, and applied. When I emailed to follow up, the Hotel Team responded pleasantly, filled me in on โChewieโsโ transport situation, and a few short days later we were on our way from just north of Boston down to Cumberland to visit him with our older rescue pup. Needless to say he was just perfect, and we took him home that day. โChewieโ is now โBodhiโ and he has been the best addition to our family. Hotel for Homeless Dogs does great work to find forever families for so many pups in need. Their team is passionate, responsive, and have hearts of gold. Thank you for helping us find this cute, very...
