It’s been since 2002 or 2003 since I traversed Blowing Cave… but man is it awesome! My best friend and I made at least half a dozen treks taking various groups of friends deep into the cave. It’s not for the faint of heart but is truly amazing. No sidewalks. No paths. Just a few painted arrows and a handful of strings to guide your way. Bring a friend. Or two. Some snacks, an extra flashlight, and be prepared to use muscles you didn’t even know you had! And wear clothes you will THROW AWAY. Oddly enough… as I type this… I think I’m wearing a shirt right this minute that I wore in the cave once. It’s a shirt from freshman orientation at Harding University in 1997. Our deepest trek was 6 hours in… taking our time… just the two of us… when the mud-graffiti tapered to almost nothing we knew we were DEEP into the cave. After an army-crawl of about 50 feet under a ledge with about 18” clearance… we knew we were about as far as we should safely venture. We high-tailed it back to the entrance… only getting turned around once or twice… in about 2.5 hours. Never been more tired in our lives! Wish we had...

It's only open without an appointment on Sunday and is regularly patrolled by the local police to keep unexpected visitors from vandalizing the place. The owner is super friendly and even shows up to greet the visitors and present you with a lot of fascinating information about the cave. The trail in is short and fairly easy to walk so unless you have health problems or are in a wheelchair I recommend looking this one up and have a talk with the owner about going to check it out. It's...

Follow the route giving until you see the red church on the left, while you are still in town, as soon as you see it take a right on the dirt road that looks like a driveway. You will need some decent ground clearance to get down there. The cave access is actually at the pull off on the left, just before the end of the road. Sorry to say, the entire road there, and a lot of the area bear the cave is littered with trash. You have to go fairly deep into the cave to pass...
