This is one of the most amazing places I have ever seen. It's worth going through more than once. The views are spectacular and the rock formations are something you won't find anywhere else in the world. I've seen a lot of cool stuff and this is easily in my top 10. Even when really busy it wasn't a terribly stressful place to visit. Definitely plan on taking your time, but it's totally worth the extra time commitment. Even if you don't have time to stop and check out the scenery it's worth just driving through. Seriously, I don't understand why this isn't a national park, Rushmore is neat for the spectacle but the Stark beauty of the natural environment in Custer, and specifically on the Needles Highway is the number one attraction in this area in my opinion. ...

This is the highlight of Custer State Park (one of the best state parks in the nation in my opinion). Some of the notable attractions include views of the Cathedral Spires, Little Devils Tower, and the Needles Eye tunnel. Traveling east to west, you finish up the majority of the drive at Sylvan Lake. The road is narrow and winding, but cars can safely pass by each other on most of it.
