Desoto Falls is one trail connecting the Lower Falls on the left of the trailhead and the Upper Falls on the right. The lower falls trail is maybe a half mile with some elevation gain and primitive stairs to help you climb up to the smaller waterfall.
The way to the upper falls is longer but flatter overall. Altogether this might have been a 2 mile hike from trail head to lower falls, backtracking then to upper falls, then turning around to the trail head and parking lot. Overall this is not an extremely difficult or isolated trail.
Located directly on the highway, you'll hear loud sports cars and motorcycles as you pass a campground while walking along side a pretty river to start the trip. There were multiple families with small kids walking this trail.
It's a nice day hike if you're in the area or just want a shorter trail. The campgrounds seem well tended to, there's a bathroom and parking costs $5 as a donation to support upkeep of the park.
It was a little overgrown on the way to the lower falls, but overall this is a pretty and relatively easy and short hike to some...
Read moreIt was a little difficult to find the entrance because the GPS took us to another place. The cellphone signal on the route is bad and the signs are not very easy to see. It took a while for us to find this falls.
First, The road to this waterfall is a zig zag, up and down mountainous road, so if you can easily get nausea or carsick, it’s not a bad idea to bring some medicine. Be warned that you have to pay for the parking which only accepts cash – $5. If you want to camp, it may be more expensive. It is on the mountain side full of trees and insects with very narrow trail, so be prepared to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. The trail is split into two: one route to the lower falls and another to the upper falls. The difference is of course the view of the waterfalls. We decided to go for the shorter way because we didn’t have a lot of time. The scenery is very refreshing and the best thing is that there are not a lot of visitors as it’s kind of hidden away.

Read moreThis is a very easy drive to get to have a hike is family-friendly and not so difficult. There's an upper and lower falls. The lower Falls say that it's 1/4 mile, but it is mostly uphill, so it is a bit more strenuous than the 3/4 mile trek to the Upper Falls.
Neither one or two hard, and you will see many families and dogs on the trails when you go. The trails were well marked.
There are plenty of picnic tables under the canopy next to the stream to set up an meal. The picnic area has a couple of BBQ pits to cook on as well.
The day we went, there hadn't been rain for a while, so this sreams didn't have very much water flowing over the falls.
I would say if time doesn't allow you to go to both of them, I would take the Upper Falls over the lower Falls, even though it's a slightly longer hike.
The Desoto Falls Recreation Area has multiple places for you to Camp as well. Do you need reservations for the campground.
The parking day pass is $5, and there...
