What you need to know: Chef Chip's food is AMAZING! Seriously, this was definitely an unbelievably delicious meal - I highly recommend the herb-crusted rack of lamb and apple mesclun salad. His prices are actually reasonable for his high quality. He's very accommodating and flexible if you have allergies or wish to put a twist on his signature menu items. He's very adaptable to the environment (we had an older smaller oven that he made work) and just a very kind human being! I wanted to plan a special night for a friend of mine who wasn't able to celebrate her birthday properly due to the pandemic we're all in currently (gotta love 2020). I saw a few friends had been using private chef services and decided to do my research, which is when I came across Chef Chip's listings and saw how highly rated he is. Chef Chip: I absolutely cannot say enough great things about Chef Chip. From the moment I reached out to him with my ideas, he was very helpful, kind, and willing to work with me to create the perfect experience. Since it was just the two of us for dinner and the kitchen/dining room are virtually the same room, Chef Chip was very engaging with us, making us laugh and sparking interesting conversation throughout the night. Food: - Appetizer course - Calamari Fritti. The Calamari was tender and not chewy at all, perfectly crisp, and the vodka sauce on the side was a perfect citrusy and tomatoey compliment to the dish. - Salad - Apple Mesclun salad. Probably one of the best salads I've ever eaten in my life. The gorgonzola, shaved apples, and that lemon honey vinaigrette combination was so flavorful and a perfect light dish in between the appetizer and main course. I will say the highlight of this salad was actually the spiced walnuts which gave a unique texture and flavor to the salad - didn't surprise me at all to learn that the "spice" used on these walnuts was actually made by the Chef himself! Once again putting his own special twist on an already amazing dish. - Main Courses - I wanted to try something different, so by my request, Chef Chip prepared an exquisite lobster tail on top of a delectable risotto with a steak medallion. I opted for his tried and true herb-crusted rack of lamb with the red wine jus, and risotto cake. For my friends course, she LOVED it. The lobster tail was cooked perfectly, the risotto underneath the tail had bits of lobster meat from the rest of the lobster in it and was so tasty! Her steak medallion was done just how she likes it and the veggies were a nice compliment to such a rich dish. My herb-crusted rack of lamb was a whole experience. Before cooking it, the Chef let me taste his homemade pesto that would encrust the lamb and by itself the pesto was phenomenal! When I finally got to taste it on the lamb, I was just in heaven. The lamb was perfectly cooked to what I like (medium-rare) and was so juicy. The risotto cake was something I’ve never had before, and as a fan of fried things, this was just stunning. I mean it’s fried on the outside and creamy on the inside, what’s not to like? The red wine jus that accompanied this dish just took it to the next level - I seriously would bathe in that jus because it was just so damn good! - Dessert - Finally to end the night, we went with the Chef's Molten Chocolate Soufflé which was an amazing end. The soufflé was cooked to perfection, molten center, fluffy outer, and the vanilla ice cream made the dish that much more delicious. Price: I ended up paying about $260 in total for the dinner (which included food costs). Considering the convenience of having Chef Chip come to us, and the quality level of the food, as well as his overall demeanor, I'd say this was a great price point as you wouldn't get everything he offers spending the same amount at a restaurant around town. All-in-all, I'll definitely be securing Chef Chip's services again in the near future and wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking an upscale dinner from a fun and engaging chef in the comfort of their own home.

We cannot say enough great things about Chef Chip. My husband hired him to cook for our 'date night' at home for our 17th anniversary. He arrived on time in his chef's uniform, very professional and courteous, made himself at home in our kitchen, and he even let my kids watch and learn what he was doing. The kids thought he was the best as well, as he included them in our anniversary experience by letting them bring out and 'serve' us the first 2 courses. He taught them what to say and proper manners when serving patrons, which I thought was adorable! The first course was ready exactly the time my husband had requested our dining experience to begin. Every course was delicious, and we couldn't believe he did all this in our own kitchen. He cleaned up and loaded the dishwasher and was overall just the nicest guy to have around. The night was truly special thanks to Chef Chip and his culinary delights. We will definitely be hiring him again!!! We had the crab fritters, apple mesclun salad, Porcini-Dusted Sea Bass with Leek & Gorgonzola Risotto, Boneless Beef Short Rib, and Molten Chocolate Souffle. All incredible!

GREAT FOOD!!! So I contacted Chef Chip late Thursday and needed him for the upcoming Sunday for my girlfriend’s birthday. He was quick to respond and was very courteous. He was able to accommodate me on short notice, he arrived Sunday ON TIME and ready to go! There were 6 of us and when I tell you it was the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time I mean it!! The pancakes were his own recipe and they did NOT disappoint!! We didn’t even need syrup on them!! The biscuits made from scratch were perfect and the jelly he provided was amazing!! He made MORE than enough food for us and even played some of the best oldies music!!! We really found ourselves sitting around chatting with him and enjoying his company, we almost forgot he was there to work lol. I wanted my girlfriend’s day to be special because later on that day I proposed (she said yes)!! I want to thank Chef Chip for all he did to get her day started on the right foot!!

We really enjoyed the experience that Chef Chip provided for a romantic dinner celebrating our anniversary. When I say "experience" that is exactly what you get with Chef Chip. The service he provides is top notch from first contact to the actual dinner. He is very easy to communicate with beforehand and his menu is stellar. Each item we picked (crab fritters, apple/Gorgonzola salad, filet, scallops and a blueberry ooey gooey butter cake that is a new item) was amazing. I would order each item again no question. The seasoning, sauces and just overall quality of food was spectacular. It will undoubtably be tough to order something else from his menu when we do have Chef Chip again (which we for sure will) but I am confident all of his food he prepares is amazing so it will be great to try some other items as well. The food had amazing flavors, fresh ingredients and was presented so well. He bought every single item, brought his own cookware, prepped the food, cooked the food, served the food and cleaned up afterwards. All of this while we sat and talked. Chef Chip is a very personable guy so it was great to get to know him. We would for sure recommend Chef Chip for anyone looking for a wonderful experience to celebrate something special. The experience was A++++. Thank you Chef Chip and look forward to...

I hired Chef Chip with The Portable Chef for my rehearsal lunch a few weeks ago and I am SO glad I did!

Communicating with Chip was pleasant and easy. I asked so many questions, made lots of requests, even changed my mind a few times, and he always happily assisted and adjusted to what I wanted.

He showed up to the venue on time and he and his team quickly setup and adapted to the space. Everything he promised was delivered and presented beautifully.

He was extremely friendly and most importantly the food was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE. You can tell he simply loves to cook because you could really taste all the love he poured into each delicious item.

Everything was so tasty and was very fresh. We decided on using his BBQ cookout menu and we added a few extra things and my family and friends raved all afternoon about his friendly and professional demeanor and how great all that food was.

It’s too bad I don’t live in the area because without question I would hire Chef Chip again for any event I’d have until the future.

If you are looking for a talented and professional catering chef, really: look no further than The Portable Chef.

Food is the most important aspect of any event, I think. It’s the thing people most often walk away talking about so THANK YOU for making this event so enjoyable and memorable for me...
