We were in Humboldt for our fathers Memorial and decided to visit the museum. We were met by Mary Palmer, who was the curator for the day. We told her of our personal family history in the area and she very graciously gave us a guided tour to see the specific articles we heard were on display. I used to stay with both grandparents on the working farms as a child. A early picture of the round barn farm before my grand parents bought it, is seen in the living room. My great uncle, Arthur Strachans' haymow door is displayed in the large outbuilding. This door was painted by Faye Carter ( her husband Guy Carter was the science and chemistry teacher in Humbolt ) Both good friends of Arthur and Marjorie Strachan . There is also a lot of History of Frank Gotch the local World champion wrestler {we stayed at the park named after him, along the river} Here are a couple pics of the farm when it was a working farm and the barn after a windstorm buckled the roof

Wow, very impressive County Historical Museum. I spent over three hours exploring the past of Humboldt Co. The property is very well kept by volunteers. The home on property is a trip into the past each room has some amazing the kids toy room, the parlor has wedding dresses one is from Mrs. Frank Gotch (Priceless) This place is worth a visit. The plantings and flowers on property are very well maintained this is a great place for a wedding. You could donate a tree and have it planted in memory of a special family member.

This was my second time visiting the museum, the first time we did not do the outbuildings, but this time we did. I took two of my grandchildren along and they had a blast. The tour was very informative and the guide was wonderful. I would give this 10 stars if I could and even if you didn’t grow up in the area it is well worth a visit.
