I wish I could leave zero stars. Just had the rudest staff encounter in my life. Unbelievable. My husband and I are camping at Patoka lake, and decided to go thrifting to get out of the heat. We have an 18 year old pug and 14 year pug that we take with us just about everywhere because of their advanced age. So I went in to the North Spencer Community Action thrift shop, to ask them if it would be ok if we brought them in to the store in their stroller. The volunteer (who was extremely polite) told me she would have to ask permission. She went into the back room and I hear someone yell “HELL NO SHE CANT BRING HER DOGS IN THE STORE!!!” My eye brows shot straight up because it is a place of business after all… but I thought, maybe they’re joking (because we thrift with our dogs, no problem anywhere else). But no, they came out of that back room with ATTITUDE. All the manager (wouldn’t give me her name but was identified as the manager by other staff) had to say was “are they service dogs?!!” And “WE HAVE A SIGN ON THE DOOR!’” I looked at the volunteer and she shook her head no and said “it’s not allowed.” That is all it would’ve taken, I understand policy. That’s why I asked. If one of the staff had apologized for their outburst, I would’ve left right there, no big deal. But for that manager to think that it was ok for her staff to yell something awful about a customer like that.. WOW. No apology, just horrible manager attitude towards me. The ugliest faces too. Their “sign on the door” was a tiny sun faded sticker. So easy to miss. I really had the idea that these staff members are left to their own devices too much and have developed attitude towards their customers. They seem to have forgotten that they serve the community. Or they’ve forgotten the basic rules of good customer service.., maybe both. Could it be they thought I was a Hispanic customer when they yelled that out at the top of their...

The building also provides a place for programs offered by the Health Department like immunizations and some features of the WIC program. Their motto is "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" and that is what...
Read moreThe NSCAC is located in Dale, Indiana in Spencer County which has just about 20,000 people. This place fills a beautiful, but kind of forgotten part of Indiana. Even in Spencer County the majority of the residents of this county (about 60%) live in the northern half, but the majority of services are more than 30 minutes away in the southern half at the county seat (Rockport). This place is a thrift store, a food pantry, and more serving the northern half of Spencer County and doing a great...
