I strongly recommend Golden Anchor Cabins! TL;DR - Great Cabins, amazing service (thank you so much Daniel!), and outstanding views. You cannot go wrong with any of the cabins.

First off, arriving here from Ohio was quite the experience! Lots of turns and hills, some 9% grade so be ready for a fun ride!

We chose the Queen Cabin, and upon arrival we entered in a very clean, inviting cabin with some music playing on the TV. Our favorite for some reason was the Towel Heated Rack and Heated Floor in the bathroom! We stayed originally 3 nights but it got bumped to 4 (reason below) in what was some crazy weather! First night, 65 and beautiful! Even captured a rainbow during this timeframe. After that, snow squalls and blizzard like conditions, the cabins ended up with maybe 8 inches of snow after it was all said and done.

Because the weather was going to be very bad, we were going to leave early due to the fact we came in our sedan and not our 4x4 (our mistake, we only thought there was going to be maybe 2 inches max when the forecast was made during our first night). As a good precaution, I called up Daniel (and thank you Daniel, for dealing with my several calls, sorry if it was much!) and got information since we don't live around there how they handle their 2 lane highways in the hills. Daniel let me know there was an extra day available, and gave us a really nice discount to take it! The day we would have left, I doubt my silly sedan would have made it far. The extra day made it possible for road crews to clear the roads, and we got out easily.

The amenities are great! Everything is available, even down to extra trash bags. Odd there was no paper towels but the one roll, but we brought extra - no problem there! I've been to cabins where you provide everything, so with everything provided, this was a great value.

The Hot Tub was really nice - a little outdated (some of the LED lights are dead, and some of the jets were struggling a little) - but I've seen much worse. Being in the Hot Tub with snow falling like a blizzard is quite an experience!

King Bed was fantastic, slept like a rock all nights. Awesome! Kitchen was great, Fridge worked well (and had an ice maker!) and the Charcoal grill worked flawless and even was pretty new. I even asked Daniel about Charcoal, because somehow we completely forgot to buy some! He helped me out with that as well, thanks again!

Gas Fireplace worked great, easy to use, and really kept us warm when watching TV and watching a blizzard squall engulf the mountain view away, really cool!

An issue I found out on the last day there was that in Queen, the one shower head (one that can be removed from the wall) temperature knob was not working apparently, and it could not send warm water out, it was always cold. We just never used it, so I didn't notice. The other one worked fine.

The entry door to get in the Cabin is also a little rough, and difficult to close. The locking part wasn't the issue, the door somehow has shifted and you need to push it towards the hinges or it gets stuck on the doorframe and won't close. Otherwise, it was fine.

Also, a recommendation - upgrade the blinds to powered ones, or mechanical for all the windows. Only the bottom windows get blinds, and we woke up the 1st morning to blinding sun, which really hurt!

Regardless, we are returning when its summertime or early fall, because there's a lot more to do than we saw (thanks snowfall!) and we really loved the service and overall features and views.

I am not docking any stars on the issues above, because service alone from Daniel gets a massive 10 out of 5 stars, thank you again for all your help and we...

My fiancée and I just left there this morning. I wish we could’ve stayed for a few more days. When we arrived there, we were greeted at the door by a chosen favorite song of mine. We call it our theme song (Superman Love Theme by John Williams.) we walked around to check everything out and we both were impressed by the atmosphere, cleanliness, and the space that the cabin offered. We chose the “Serenity” cabin for five nights and it was wonderful. The heated floors in the bathroom was great along with the heated towel rack. The toilet was a bit on the short side, but I am six feet tall after all. My fiancée loves to cook and I love to eat her meals, so she was elated to see that the kitchen was stocked with everything she needed to do just that. There is Wi-Fi there but it’s better in the front room as opposed to the bedroom. The sights is awesome! Mountains in the daytime and stars galore at night! The bed was comfortable too. Upstairs in our cabin was some type of hockey game we weren’t big fans of it, but we were big fans of the pool table next to it! We had fun playing billiards as a couple just having a good time. There is a pond a few yards away from our cabin that my fiancée loved so much. You’re able to feed the fish but not catch/eat them as the are they owner’s pets. We just fed them bread for the most part. There is a fireplace in the front room that adds to the mood and scenery. Unfortunately we didn’t know how to operate it until the night before we left, and that’s our fault. Lastly, the icing on the cake was the jacuzzi… this was amazing to get in together and relax in. It felt great sitting in there with the love of my life with not a care in the world.

I wish I could have met the owners to thank them for such a wonderful experience. I also wanted to give them the video of our reaction to the cabin. The only problem I personally had with the cabin is that there was no Blu-ray player there. It’s not that serious though, what’s important is that I got to spend ample time with my girl. I did buy a movie for the cabin (or rather four) Men in Black 1-3 with international. I feel like it’s a good contribution for the place as they do have a dvd player. So if you stay in that particular cabin, it’ll be there. We talked about coming back for our ten year anniversary and if we do, I’d love to stay in that...

I surprised my husband for our five year anniversary with a trip to Golden Anchor Cabins. Our 3 night stay in the "Queen" cabin exceeded my expectations and was, quite literally...perfect. The owners clearly put love into this place, as can be seen in the many beautiful details and special touches. I was able to have our "song" playing as we entered, which really blew my husband away and the chocolate covered strawberries were a wonderful treat! This was our very first time away from our 20-month-old son and, while we missed him terribly, this much needed respite and opportunity to reconnect was just what we needed. We spent our first day hiking at Blackwater Falls State Park, which was wonderful and I highly recommend it. We planned to go to Spruce Knob on our second day, but mother nature had a better plan. It rained hard all day and was quite cold, but we were happy to stay warm and cozy in our beautiful cabin enjoying a full day of complete relaxation. An earlier review mentioned that the hot tub was not under the porch and therefore couldn't be used in rain or snow. Well, let me tell you, I put on a baseball cap to keep the rain off my face and enjoyed that hot tub on a cold and rainy day just fine :-) Just a couple pointers for any potential visitors, the DVD player in our cabin did not play Blu-ray discs, which is all I brought. Although, we did enjoy a BBC spy series that was available in the cabin and there were several romantic comedies (not our faves) available as well. Also, when we return for our next visit, we'll be sure to bring a couple board games. My husband and I both agreed that a few rounds of scrabble on our rainy day would have been fun. Lastly, if you plan to eat out at all, I highly recommend Hellbender's Burritos. We had dinner there our first night and it was so delicious!

I'm sorry for writing a book, but I'm still floating on cloud nine from our trip and can't wait...

This place is amazing! Excellent spot to relax and have some peace and quiet time with your spouse. Beautiful cabin ( Royale) - loved the wood inside and the decor was very nice. Cabin was very clean and the heated towel rack in the bathroom was a nice touch and shower had lots of space for 2. The cabin amenities, fireplace, loved the hot tub after a long day exploring & the comfortable bed was nice plent of pillows , even had a washer n dryer which they supplied laundry soap for which was good cause we didn't bring any . lots to do n see in the area we did some sight seeing at dolly sods and blackwater falls ! beautiful views especial;ly this time of the year when leaves are changing colors. we happened to be there the weekend of the leaf peepers festival in davis we had a great afternoon there eating and did some local shopping with some of the vendors they had set up. we went horse back riding just few miles from cabin, my fiances first time and she absolutely loved it. plenty of spots to eat in the area so no worries there , cause i like to eat its a must when i get a chance to leave my home town , love trying new places ! in the listing it mentioned something about cell service in cabin, but mine worked absolutely fine i have att and a sumsung phone and didnt have any issues at cabin. the communication with owners was excellent. the views really were amazing we seen some beautiful scenery and make this an incredible place to getaway and it's also close to some nice hikig trails. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royale cabin and would love to come back in a few months it was our first time there Absolutely worth it! you’ll have no regrets staying here!!!
