A Quiet, Adventurous Hike to a Small Scenic Overlook
If you're someone who enjoys a bit of adventure and a good hike, this overlook can be a rewarding destination. Starting from the Pendleton Lake area, it’s about a 2-mile trek—usually taking 35 to 60 minutes depending on your pace. On average, it took me around 40 minutes. The trails are color marked at good intervals and labeled at intersections, but it does get narrow in places—sometimes barely a foot wide—so good footing and a hiking pole can be helpful.
Along the way, you’ll likely encounter some wildlife, so staying alert is a good idea. It’s not the best trail for dogs unless you have excellent leash control, as the terrain can be uneven and the path tight in spots. Be prepared for muddy patches depending on the season, and keep in mind that this trail feels quite isolated—which adds to the adventure but also means there are no real rest areas or benches along the way.
As for the overlook itself, it's a small, quiet spot—ideal for a single group at a time. The view is lovely, though not the most expansive in the area. If you're looking for grand vistas without much effort, there are other overlooks nearby that might better suit your needs.
Still, for hikers who love the journey as much as the destination, this trail offers a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path experience. There may be other routes to reach this spot, such as from the Douglas Falls area, which could be worth exploring. Oh—and yes, I did spot a snake, so...
