ETA: to be abundantly clear, it also was not the teachers that my child had in the toddler 1 room that made our experience frustrating. The teachers that interacted with my child always seemed great. My husband heard that comment come from a teacher in a classroom higher than our child was in. And the day to day frustrations we had were from the poor communication from the management staff and the constant low staffing.
The management was not great in our time here. It was very difficult to understand what was needed when transitioning from one room to the next. As new parents we asked a lot of questions and it always felt like our questions were met with annoyance from the management staff. I asked several times for copies of the rule books / or any classroom policies so we could have a better understanding of the expectations for us and was never given anything. We received messages nearly daily asking for volunteers to keep our kid home due to low staffing. Our daughter was sent home sick one of those days for having "diarrhea", but was a breastfed baby who had just started solids and was having her typical loose breastfeeding poops. She was in the same clothes we sent her in so clearly had not had a "blow out".
The teachers in the infant rooms were fantastic with my daughter and were the reason we stayed as long as we did! They were responsive and playful. However, as she got bigger and transitioned into toddler rooms there just weren't a lot of opportunities for gross motor play unless they were outside. Also after she transitioned, when I would ask how her day went I often got told "idk, i've only been in here for 30 minutes" and that was really frustrating. My husband also overheard a teacher in one of the older toddler classrooms tell a kid he wouldn't get to eat breakfast if he threw another toy during drop off one morning.
We made the switch to EC3 and we have been amazed at the difference and how happy my toddler is every day when we...
Read morePlease be aware of the multiple special investigation reports on LARA’s website showing established violations and abuse at this facility.
“Child Care Staff Member 1 inflicted mental and emotional punishment by yelling and swearing at the children in care. VIOLATION ESTABLISHED”
“Child Care Staff Member 1 did not provide appropriate care and supervision to the children in care when she handled them roughly and pulled on their arm. Ms. Riis and Ms. Zimmerman also did not provide appropriate care and supervision to the children in care by not following up on concerns brought forth regarding Child Care Staff Member 1. REPEAT VIOLATIONS ESTABLISHED”
I received a call from CPS after a report that my 1.5 year old had been slapped across the face by a caretaker at Gilden Woods in Grand Ledge. When I spoke with Bridget the director, she blamed the report on women being “catty” in the workplace and said she didn’t believe the allegations at all.
Bridget assured me she never had any concerns or complaints about this employee brought to her attention. The multiple documented reports and employee interviews that are now public information state otherwise.
I pulled my child from Gilden Woods immediately, but was told the employee continued to work there with children “as little as possible.”
The next report about a month after this incident states a parent called police into the facility. She witnessed the same caregiver (the report cites the screenshot I provided CPS) had “flung” her infant on the live video stream. This incident finally established violations had occurred before, during, and after after my daughter’s case.
The safety and wellbeing of literal babies is not a priority at this facility, and they attempt to sweep child abuse under the rug. It’s all there in black and white on...
Read moreNeglectful, absolutely disgusted with this place. They don’t interact with your child in the slightest, dirty bottle warmers, and lazy staff. Any concerns we have had were not taken seriously. Over the last couple weeks, on multiple occasions, we have witnessed our son on the floor screaming and crying through their mobile app/camera. When we arrive 20 minutes later, we’d find him in the same place, still crying with snot all over his face. Today at pick up, he was wedged under the changing table, where he couldn’t move, screaming and exhausted. We are leaving this place immediately, and would not recommend anyone bring their...
