The positives of the course was the staff, the potential of the layout and the greens were not bad. To the negative was the condition of the fairways.
I have been in Florida all week on a business trip and iching to play golf. This was the 3rd time on a course and the first full round. Teed off as a single and the second to go at 0700 following 2 regulars that didn't care to pair up. The first two holes I thought I'd be pushing them all day but then they zoomed and I didn't see them again. On hole 4, I started taking multiple shots and didn't see any groups behind me even though the tee sheet was full.
The staff was great. I saw online that there were two tee times first thing in the morning but choose not to buy until I got to the course. The cart guy was jovial and sent me to the counter where Peggy(?) got me checked in. Hearing that I hadn't been there before she gave me a yardage book which was invaluable since the yardage on my golf app weren't even to the right holes. The starter got me out even if I thought that I preferred to go with a group. Turned out playing multiple balls was what I really wanted today.
There is one picture of a green. Usually a lot of my rating score is driven by the greens. Here the grass was consistent and the ball ran reasonably smooth. They weren't quick but they also weren't painfully slow.
Hopefully you can tell from the pictures that the layout of this course had the potential to be 1st class. Good terrain. Nice sand areas. In fact given how poor the grass was it was surprising how fluffy and debris free the sand areas were.
The pictures of the fairways was typical of all the fairways. Pretty poor.
Overall it was a nice time. I don't think they would have let me walk at that time of day but the green to tee distance wasn't bad and I could have...
Read morePlayed the course for the first time on 06/16/19. Course was in good shape. Bunkers were a little packed down and the greens were still recovering from a recent aeration. The problem was with the staff. We arrived just before 4:00PM and paid the going rate for 18 holes. We were told "no rain checks today", which was fine as it had been raining on and off that day. We (a 3-some) teed off at 4:00PM and played the front nine in about 1 hour and 45 minutes. While standing on the 10th tee, the starter drives up and tell us we need to be done by 7:30PM. We were put on the clock as it were. We practically ran the whole back nine which messed up everyone's game. This was unacceptable and totally unprofessional. If they had a time limit that day, they should not have let us pay for 18 holes at 4:00PM only to tell us after. We play fairly quickly but that means they expected us to play 18 holes in 3 1/2 hours! If you take my money for 18 holes, I should be allowed to play 18 holes at a reasonable, natural pace. Not running from hole to hole. Otherwise tell us when checking in so we could decide if we only wanted to play 9 holes then, at the cheaper rate. If you play this course later in the day, make sure ask about a time limit so as to avoid experiencing...
Read moreThe Deltona Club is a great golf course that our group visits about 6-7 times annually. The layout is exceptionally well-designed, offering a challenging yet enjoyable experience for golfers of all skill levels. The staff is always very friendly. One of the standout features of the course is the strategic placement of the sand bunkers. While there isn't any water hazards to speak of, the numerous bunkers scattered throughout the fairways and greens demand precise shot-making and course management. This adds an extra layer of difficulty that keeps even the most seasoned golfers on their toes. The course conditions are, with a few exceptions, consistently good, with well-maintained fairways, greens, and tee boxes. The Deltona Club is an excellent choice for the average weekend golfer looking for a challenging yet fair test of their skills. The course's layout, combined with a fair cost, its good conditioning, makes it a must destination for any golfer in the area.
