This was an awesome hike. Especially for being so close to Portland! I'd recommend starting at the northern parking on Mountain Road. It's a good workout going up, then a nice walk along the top with gorgeous views, and beautiful sparse trees with berries and ferns everywhere. Leads to a fire lookout, with a view of the White mountains that is to die for. Continuing down from there is a much more gradual decline to mountain road, then a 1.5 mile walk back to the car. I rode the whole way up standing because the trail was so beat up. I would highly recommend studs for this trail.
