This was an awesome hike. Especially for being so close to Portland! I'd recommend starting at the northern parking on Mountain Road. It's a good workout going up, then a nice walk along the top with gorgeous views, and beautiful sparse trees with berries and ferns everywhere. Leads to a fire lookout, with a view of the White mountains that is to die for. Continuing down from there is a much more gradual decline to mountain road, then a 1.5 mile walk back to the car. (Or park at the south lot, walk north first. All depends on how you want to end the day.) This is definitely worth doing!!

Nice little hike up Southwest Ridge Trail on Denmark Road (or cut across Wilton Warren Road). Ledge on the back. Over 1000 foot gain. Did it with some ice and snow in November and needed spikes. Cool Yurt at the top with a clearing and great view of hundreds of mountains towards Mount Washington. Continued over to the other side to ledges trail on Mountain Road where we parked a second car and ate lunch at a nice little waterfall.

This trail is not groomed and based on the conditions I rode this trail on (late winter) I would say it’s an intermediate to advanced ride. I rode the whole way up standing because the trail was so beat up. I would highly recommend studs for this trail. The trail is a little tight, so if a sled is coming the other direction someone is going to have to pull off the trail. The view from the top is beautiful!!
