I bought a gift card for my son for a cord of firewood delivered on 12-25-21. It was actually the 23rd but that’s the date the man put on the gift card. It was a Christmas gift. My son had an addition put on that was supposed to be completed in October and then the contractor told them January. As of now, it is still not completed because of Covid related back orders. They just finished their fireplace and called to have their wood delivered and they were asked to take a picture of their gift card and send it. Their gift card specifically states a cord of wood delivered with no expiration. The man, George, told them it cost 60$ more now because the price of wood went up. How can you charge more for something after it was already bought and paid for? My friends and I will never patronize this place again. . I never cursed or yelled at him and never spoke to anyone but George so how did I harass his employees. How about everyone is affected by covid related issues? It’s not like buying a Walmart gift card because my gift card specifically said a cord of wood and delivery paid for in full and no expiration . It was not to your garden center. George yelled at me on the phone when I said I was calling consumer affairs. It was 10 months later not a year. You are making the big deal over 60$ not me. It was a Christmas gift . It never said prices...
Read moreAfter talking to George and explaining that I was looking for a cord of dry and seasoned Oak, we agreed on a delivery date and the cord of wood was quickly delivered and stacked for extra cash in my backyard. I did make it very clear that the wood had to be seasoned because I use it to fire up my wood burning oven to cook pizza which requires high temperatures. The amount of logs, in my opinion, didn't make up a full cord but I didn't feel like arguing and I let that go. After firing up the oven the first time using this wood it became clear that the whole cord was green despite my specific request that it needed to be seasoned. The logs hiss and bleed moisture when ignited. Now I'm stuck with the cord of wood that I won't be able to use until next year and unable to use my oven due to the lack of seasoned wood. If George had been upfront about the lack of seasoning that the oak had I may have not bought it or asked for a different price. I will certainly never buy...
Read moreNOTE: This review is just for Nick's firewood, which I just bought a cord of.
Nick's delivers firewood by the cord, and their prices are similar to others in the area. Also similar to others, a lot of their wood is unusable without further processing. In other words, a lot of the wood is cut so long or so thick, or both, that you have to re-split about 75% of it in order to use it in virtually any wood-burning appliance other than a bonfire. I've included a photo of one of the pieces which is easily over 3 feet long and maybe 25 inches around. That piece will have to be split and cut length-wise in order to fit in our stove or firepit.
For me, the quality of firewood comes down to two things - seasoning and size. Nick's fails hard on size,...
