Shady Hollow Flea Market near Detroit Lakes is an outdoor summer weekend event where people sell clever metal lawn sculptures, clothing, books, videos, old hand tools, action figures, antique (or not) glassware and china, brand name kitchen storage containers or aromatherapy items, fur hats, mitts, and accessories, jewelry, pottery, hand woven throw rugs, furniture, knives and guns - you name it, it's probably there somewhere.

Stop and take the time to talk to some of these people, and they really seem to know their wares inside and out.

A few vendors sell snacks or burgers and brats so people can stick around and take their time browsing the outdoor stalls or the goods available in some small, permanent buildings on site. A lot of vendors seem to be there every time I go, while others are just trying it out and decide it's not really the right place for their products.

I don't know the exact dates they open in the spring or summer, or when they close down in the fall, but it is a weekend event, and Memorial Day and Labor Day may be good approximate bookends...

Left at 830am and probably at least half of the permanent vendors aren’t even open yet (this is a nice warm summer morning in July) Claims to open at 630, but honestly I wouldn’t bother coming until at least 10 at which point any true gems will likely have been snapped up by shoppers willing to wander in circles waiting for the one-day vendors to set up (those vendors had much better prices for the most part). The majority of the permanent vendors have prices higher than eBay for their antiques and collectibles and filthy merchandise. A vast array of arts, crafts, antiques, vintage pieces, new items, slightly used and in some cases you can hire laborers and skilled laborers to help you with particular project you may have going. Throughout Shady Hollow Flee Market you will find FOOD! Ethnic food, fattening food, Delicious food and beverages to quench any thirst.
