Detroit Golf Club — Local services in Detroit

I am an double leg amputee and cant golf any more but love the sport! I am confined to a wheelchair. In 2019 the handicapped amenities at the Rocket Mortgage Classic was an afterthought. It was terrible! However, it was their 1st year so I figured it was a work in progress and would improve. 2020 never happened due to covid so I was excited to go back again this year.

Well they made great strides with the handicapped parking and Dean transport did a good job at getting us back and forth to the golf course in their wheelchair van. One of the 1st thing we noticed as going through the course, they had wheelchair lifts on some of the elevated viewing decks. I though cool - maybe I can actually see the golfers this year! I was sadly disappointed. Turns out the elevator lifts were only on the big $$ stands - not on the general admission stands!

It started to pour down rain and while everyone just climbed the stairs to the covered elevation deck to seek shelter, I was stuck sitting in the rain.

While they made some strides in improving things, I still find it a shame that I was not provided the same access to things as the able bodied person. I can only hope they make more inclusions for all spectators in the future. Wishful thinking We ended up just leaving and never seeing any...

Great staff!! Their kids room is staffed by an early childhood teacher and is extremely flexible and follows your requests to a T! Pool staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly; additionally, they offer private swim lessons when they are not guarding, which is great as the kids get to know the guards and actually listen to them as they aren’t just the life guards, but instructors as well. Maintenance crew keeps grounds in impeccable shape, which is likely why the PGA tour plays here. All in all, great club to belong to; not to mention, they are extremely family...
