I hate to share this info because every year Smith's gets more crowded during the holidays. Anyone that travels the I-95 Corridor north or south now that knows about Smith's has a cooler and makes a stop and they work their trip around the opening hours of Smith's. And my wildest dream I wanted to just go there and not worry about how much money I was going to spend or how much I had on me. Of course I didn't use cash. But let me tell you I spent $329 in one haul and didn't regret one penny of what I spent. This trip was with a friend who spent $200 plus dollars. Our biggest laugh or concern was getting everything into the car. I understand it this was not a trip that required luggage but a day trip. Everyone in my family who goes mix that part of their Journey cousin and Delaware spent $400 because you want enough to last until your next trip South. My sister shared just the story of the sausage and a co-worker went to Massachusetts driving took a large cooler and it was filled up with Smith's food. When relatives came South they stopped at Smith's to bring food down and that's what we used to do between Florida and Virginia. It's a great day trip or a place to stop on your way somewhere. The barbecue is great we started with the sausage behind the counter. Especially traveling you want something that will endure the trip. The sausage behind the counter is dried in the cold case it's fresh sausage. The best sausage I've ever had. I don't think they'll run out because they have ropes and ropes of sausage hanging so they know what we want LOL and I thank them. That honey bun cake is delicious. At Christmas I love it there and one of my friends brought me back sausage which meant I didn't really need to go then but I really wanted to anyway so I leaned into maybe this means I shouldn't drive in traffic this week but I really wanted to make that trip the decorations are 10 plus. Thank you Smith's red and white. One year on the way back from Florida we stopped and had so much stuff we couldn't figure out how to put it in the car. A lady walked by and says you're not from here are you and we busted out laughing.. it's an old country sausage try it but...
Read moreOld school meets new school and everything in between! This is possibly one of the best and most unique grocery stores I have stepped foot in. When I saw the reviews online while looking for a restaurant and then when I pulled up and saw the words “pork center“ I just had to go in. Take your time walking around, but if you need more expedited field trip, go straight to the back right and walk toward the left, just perusing the back wall. On the back right you will see the breakfast meat with House made sausage ranging anywhere from the length of your forearm to the length of your entire wingspan. Shelves up upon shelves of canned goods made specifically for the grocery store with the same ingredients, your grandparents used to eat instead of all the junk that is put into things now. Think bread and butter, pickles that actually tells you the name of the spices, and homemade preserves and jams without extra chemicals for preservation or a bunch of corn syrup. go down the line to see the largest selection if meat and especially pork I’ve ever seen in a grocery store,.! In terms of pork, they have ever cut you could possibly imagine. Even specialty defines like pigtails, split pigs feet, cured salted cuts for seasoning, ham hocks, cubed pork steak and the list goes on. They even have sausages hanging and country hams hanging in sacks behind the counter. Keep walking down for a large selection of baked goods baked offsite but clearly from a country bakery. Now, I will say I was a little disappointed to see corn syrup used in some of the baked goods, showing me it was a larger, even if still local, commerical bakery. However based on the look you can still tell there is a quality of care for the products. Go next door for a wonderful classic country cooking style...
Read moreThis is like the refreshing visit back to when grocery stores had the freshest foods and vegetables. I'm overflowing with stories to share but you just have to see it for yourself, especially now that Christmas is coming the decorations are getting ready to go up. I was just looking up the number to call them to see when because I'm overdue for breakfast sausage. 😋 Children will love the entryway as well as adults who will go back to childhood Days with the candies on the shelves and in the baskets. We used to call it Penny Candy. Smith's still carries brands that you can't find in the newer bigger grocery stores. For me it's like going to an amusement park of food and definitely worth a day trip with a cooler. It's a happy place❣️🌅 the jellies, Jams, preserves, relishes, sauces and treats are mesmerizing. One time I came away with 29 products from this section. I don't miss an aisle because I don't want to forget or miss something. One one thing I did learn upon my last visit where there was a line for the sausage at the desk in the back so because I was at the vegetable area waiting in line when a basket of packaged sausage rolled out I got two packages but discovered that it was the fresh sausage rope and not the aged which I prefer, that is hanging at the back counter. I think you have to ask because during the holidays one year it was the dry aged sausage in the baskets/shopping carts. The flavor is more...
