I was 17 in the summer of 2011 when I first volunteered for this wonderful animal shelter. It was for service hours for my membership in my high school National Honor Society...On the last day of sophomore year, the naughty dog I had worked on training with all summer and had fallen in love with (she was in the shelter for almost a year) was waiting in my driveway when I got home, my mom had adopted my then 2-year old Border Collie, Crazy Daisy, for me. My dog was supposed to be euthanized December of 2010 in GA. She wakes up every day thinking it's the new best day of her life & that's my favorite thing about her. Classic "who rescued who?" story. In January of 2014 I then drove down south to do a volunteer dog transportation rescue for Dog Orphans Humane Society...it was one of the best, most rewarding, and eye-opening experiences of my life to have pups in my car from the kill shelters and driving up over the state lines to where they would be safe at Dog Orphans until they found their fur-ever homes. There are so many dogs still waiting to find the love they deserve in life and this nonprofit organization goes above and beyond to make sure they can keep doing what they're doing and by placing dogs in proper/suitable homes, training volunteers, organizing fundraisers/events, advocating for animals in need, and making a difference in the world one...
Read moreVery upset with this organization. We adopted a family dog Chuck back in February and they went against everything we told them about adopting him out. He had issues with our dog and attacked him and bit him on many occasions and also bit a guest in our house. We had family matters going on during the time we had him but it did not affect his daily life. We still took him out on walks alone without our other dog and tried to do the best we could with him including bringing him to my work, a dog daycare so that he got good socialization and exercise. It didn’t work out because of the behavior problems that kept getting worse with the dog and Dog Orphans spun the situation around to make it look like we were at fault as a family when we did all we could to the best of OUR ability. I am very hurt to see the post they put about re adopting him to a new family and went against everything we advised about him to flourish in a new home with an environment best suitable for him. It really hurts me. We did not even ask about the adoption fee because we know how much rescues need it and now they are making double off of this dog....
Read moreI came to see some puppies with my kiddos as it’s best to see how the child and dog Interact before deciding on adopting. And I will say the staff wasn’t really inviting from the moment I showed up. The conversation right off the bat was completely insulting, and insinuating that we were not fit for caring for a puppy just because we have two children. I believe showing up in person is enough truth to how serious and ready our family is to take on the task. I understand trying to educate one on how much work a puppy is but I believe in the way this was approached wasn’t the best. Very poor customer service. They went from one application ahead of me to when I left after meeting the puppy to 7……. Make it make sense. We previously had a dog before so we know what it’s like but we feel as though they completely dismissed us and used everything in the books to not sell to us....
