Heini's glory years are far behind them. Their store gives the impression that they have both given up and will be closing sooner than later. When visiting you'll notice how most of their product isn't stocked. Some of the cheese product that is stocked is moldy or bloated. Yes, the sewage smell in the cheese area is the smell of moldy cheese. The quality control of their cheese has gone under significantly. When buying from here recently my Baby Swiss had what looked like blue fibers from a shirt in it.
When going to the far left back of the store, you're greeted with a miscellaneous corner store with all sorts of random products like cake batter, fruit gummies, pop tarts, or even ramen noodles. All of which is over priced and most of it is suprisingly expired! When looking around I had trouble finding products that weren't expired. If they cleared out all the expired product, it would definetly look like the store is about to close.
This isn't the worse part. The way Heini's treats their hard workers is sad. When it comes to their lazy workers that do very little to no work, as long as you show up daily you have job security. When it comes to the hard workers that have to carry all the work, don't call off during your 50 hr work week or you'll be fired. This is a huge reason why Heini's will not be around for...
Read moreAnother memory of my childhood. I lived in small town Ohio, Shelby to be exact and I was still in 4th grade when we moved to OH and didn't move again till the middle of my 8th grade year. My parents used to take us here especially when day tripping or family visits to our Grandparents in Princeton WV. Although at that time, we would always get milkshakes at a place called Alpine Alpa (I think.. Memory isn't as reliable as it was) and there was a giant cuckoo clock in the front. I think I read that after the restaurant closed that the clock was moved to another place and restored for more to see. Heini's is still a fond memory and it was great to share that with a member of my current family. We really enjoyed the cheese and the few things we purchased there yesterday. We are planning another trip in the early fall where we will stay over to see everything and get an earlier start to see the cheese making. And to get some local Raw honey before winter's sore throats hit. Place is still very clean and the workers very polite and helpful. If you're ever in the area, I recommend...
Read moreWe used to go to Heini's a few times a year to get a variety of cheeses. It was nice because we could sample new flavors before buying them. Our favorite was a smoked swiss/American combo. We couldn't find it anywhere else. And now Heini's doesn't have it either. When COVID hit they stopped having samples in front of the individual types of cheeses. Now their stock is reduced by over 1/3, they're using much less of the refrigerated cases and some items are just gone. They used to carry a variety of different unusual flavors of fudge. Gone. Basic flavors only. Man in the moon cheese, gone. No one was available in the cheese room to ask questions. A few staff in the retail room where they sell overpriced souvenirs, ice cream, candy etc. But they are manning cash registers and "don't know". If you look at my reviews I tend to find the good in businesses and hate to say things that may affect business. If you've never been to Heini's it might still be a fun experience. But to someone who lives 30 minutes away and has been coming here for decades it's a...
