What makes for a good Teton sunset? 1. Clean air 2. High to mid-level clouds 3. Low humidity 4. Unobstructed Mountain Views: Glacier View Turnout, Teton Point Turnout, Snake River Overlook, Oxbow Bend Turnout, Willow Flats Overlook, and Jackson Lake Overlook 5. And a little bit of luck! 🌄 #MyGrandTeton #sunset Video Courtesy of A. Falgoust

Jackson Lake Overlook is is one of the places where a good view of Jackson Lake is possible and it is the last view of the Tetons, in profile, and looking to the west over the northern part of Jackson Lake. The lake is 15-miles long, 7-miles wide and 438 feet deep. There is a southbound pullout right on the highway, wide enough to get one’s car off the highway. There are no services at this pullout. It is also possible to walk down to the water’s edge from the pullout. If you are tempted to go in the water, it might be helpful to know that Jackson Lake’s water temperature averages below 60 F°, even in the summer. From the Jackson Lake Viewpoint to Yellowstone Park’s South Entrance, is about 12 miles.

You need to schedule yourself for a morning visit and a afternoon visit. Because the views of this lake are totally different! We have our first pass in the mid afternoon and we took few photos with the Sun on top or little behind the mountain. We came back around 8:30 in the morning couple days later, the morning sun was shine on the mountain which gives a very different impression of the lake and this overlooks!
