I got a wild hair and joined Maguey Melate during Covid. I liked mezcal, but didn't know much about it. What a great decision! I've gained a great education and respect for the maestros who make this delicious elixir, through fun conversation with a community of like-minded and curious mezcal fans. Our regular taste and chats on Zoom are a highlight for me. I like seeing folks and hearing what they think (and taste). We've had some really funny descriptions of tastes, and the great thing is that everyone can contribute. I still have a lot to learn and am enjoying that process a lot! Another outstanding feature of the club is the work that the Melate crew do to find and promote quality mezcal and mezcaleros. This helps sustain the production and bring income to those folks who do the backbreaking work of creating a batch. So, while I'm sipping and enjoying, I also know that the producer is also benefiting. I've recommended Maguey Melate to many friends as a way to both enjoy some great mezcal and learn more. Friends love to come over and try various bottles. Even my Halloween skeleton got into the act this year.

I joined in October 2019 and am always impressed with the quality. There's been a great selection of mezcals, cooking methods, and varieties that would be hard (or impossible) for people to get outside of Oaxaca. The boxes have all arrived quickly and were well packed. I like that the shipping box itself has information inside it, as well as the information cards that come with the mezcals. The small bottle size keeps the club a very reasonable price and is easy to enjoy without having lots of huge bottles taking up a shelf. Bartenders interested in mezcal are always impressed when I tell them about the club, their goals, and the huge wealth of information provided. We now also have monthly calls to discuss the spirts and connect with others from the club, which has been a big highlight.

Best artisanal mezcal experience out there IMHO! The spirits are from micro-producers, and the interviews and videos are extremely educational, enjoyable and humbling (great music too!). This is like eating an exceptional prime rib...but first picking out the cow, taking her for a walk, picking what she eats and putting her down humanely to the sounds of Kenny G, then enjoying the exceptional product! Seriously though, enjoying every drop...well worth the price, exceptional!

My wife Paula and I found Maguay Melate just as it was getting established , and from the beginning we have been so impressed with the professionalism of every aspect of the business.First let me say that their core values of working toward creating sustainable production of mescal is the leadership this whole industry is going to need goiing forward -I couldn't in good conscience buy a product like mescal unless I knew that every effort was being made to ensure that the plants that are used to produce it were being protected and replanted The second core value that I connected with of Maguay Melate is that they believe that the people that produce the products-the maestros and maestras should be properly compensated for their product and that these "folk artists" must also be sustained or their art form will be lost and all that will be left is mass production. Every time I deal with the people of Maguay Melate they have been helpful and true to their word ; Dalton has been great with every order I have made and o\n the spot when I was l\o\o\king for a mecal tour. Dari our tour guide that Dalton fixed us up with was extremely professional and knowledgeable, I cant say enough about what a great connection Maguay Melate is, Looking forward to my next...

I’ve been a Maguey Melate member for many years now and I can say it is the best way to learn about the wonderful world of mezcal, except getting on a plane, flying to Oaxaca and going to the palenques yourself. Every two months you get two carefully selected mezcals, made by maestro mezcaleros throughout Mexico. I’ve never been disappointed by a bottle, they’ve all been excellent. And there is a wide variety of mezcaleros, agaves, and many regions in Mexico where they make mezcal are represented.

How it works: knowledgeable people in Mexico, who have been working in the mezcal business for a long time, contract with a different mezcalero each month to produce a unique batch of mezcal. These are then bottled and sent to subscribers every two months. Then, if you go to Maguey Melate’s Facebook page, you can watch videos throughout the month of the mezcalero talking about how he/she makes mezcal.

This is a great way to learn about mezcal at a reasonable price. If you are at all interested in this amazing spirit, become a Maguey...
