It is no secret that organic, sustainably produced, or local food is more expensive, and for that reason I was worried for the plan of this business.
That said, this place is really not that much more expensive than Kramers was and I still see many people in the store even though it opened months ago now.
The atmosphere here is far classier than it used to be as well. There is a comfortable seating area which adds to a better “local” feeling, along with the fact that you can find historical pictures and their captions next to it and there is even a Bible verse on the wall. The whole vibe adds to Dufur’s image in my opinion. We are a tight community where most people know each other and try to get along, and when you see the friendly faces in here, you’ll feel that, even if you are an out-of-towner.
When it comes to the expense, you will spend a lot most likely, but lunch doesn’t cost too much and the pastries are well worth their price tag. I swear I taste the difference in the flour I bought and it is super nice to know I can pronounce the ingredients of the drinks and they are sourced from farmers much like the ones around here.
I also have only had one coffee and I liked it.

I can't recommend the cheesecake enough - we tried all three varieties and ate them at the nice seating area. We really enjoyed chatting with the owner too. And if you need something for your lunch while hiking about, I advise the focaccia which is definitely the best focaccia I've ever had- moist with delicious olive oil, flavorful with sweet tomatoes, and hearty enough to sink your teeth into...
