Well I seen the vídeos online about walking to island and thought it will be cool to do!. Well If you ask me to do it again I will deeply say NO! It's about 2.5 to 3 mile walk. And then when you see the Tree full with Shell's or see signs that you think you arrived well you still have about a 40 walk. And after the Tree of Shell's that where the worst part is coming. You will have to walk a few time in water. And you may think it's just a bit a water. But yes same thing I was thinking but when you add a smell of rotten egg and brown water it changes everything! Well after your thoughts of what the heck did I get myself into passes your mind you continue to the goal which is the island. The first time you see wooden stairs you think ufff I'm here. But let me break your heart and tell you no it's just some bathrooms and yes super clean ones! So so continue walking to the second wooden staircases where your going to see the umbrella and chair rental guy. That will take you to the Ranger and gift/ expensive food shop. And yes The ranger station is next to the shop. And once you get there you will be excited and want to find the ranger station to give them the $2 that after a while you'll notice nobody else on the beach payed. The lady in the small shop is the sweetest thing I saw that day. I bought a bacon cheeseburger and fries for $16. For $16 I definitely had better quality burger! But again the cook lady was awesome. The beach is definitely secluded but mentally entertaining it is not. Then guess what after 2 hours I started my walk back looking looking like a zombie from walking dead! Now my final thoughts! Is it worth the walk even for and adventure? Heck NO! Is it worth it for the ferry ride? Maybe for a few hours but honestly there is a lot more beaches. Still I think Fort de Soto is still top...
Read moreCaladesi Island is a hidden gem and we are so thankful to have explored it's beautiful land and beaches during our vacation in Clearwater, FL. If you're staying in the Clearwater area, it's a quick 20-30 minute Uber ride to the ferry (located on Honeymoon Island). Take the ferry from Honeymoon over to Caladesi Island. It's worth the price of $16/person. They permit you 4 hours stay to guarantee a ride back on the ferry. They offer ferry rides every 30 minutes. We initially thought this wouldn't be enough time (4 hours), but it was plenty! On the island, you will experience the most beautiful beaches filled with stunning seashells. We enjoyed walking along the beach collecting seashells for quite a long time. The water is crystal clear and warm, nothing like I've ever experienced! We saw a variety of fish at our feet, but beware of stingrays! Be on the lookout for dolphins, too! On the beach, there are rentals available for umbrellas and chairs. The beaches are private so it was extremely peaceful. There is a small concession area right off the beach to grab cheap eats like burgers, hotdogs, and snacks. They have very nice restroom and changing facilities, too. They also have an island trail, although we didn't love this part. It was very hot and we didn't see much wildlife. Trust me, go to Caladesi Island and make a day of it! It was the highlight of our...
Read moreA hidden gem that deserves a visit from you, your friends and your family! I’ve lived in Florida my whole life and been to many different beaches, but nothing beats Caladesi’s beauty so close to Tampa Bay. I’ve been told many times by friends to make the visit over and I wish I had done it sooner. You’ll enter through Honeymoon island which is currently $8 per car and once you’re through the gates you’ll take a left into the Caledesi ferry parking lot and pay $18 per person for a ride there and back. The lovely thing about this island is they only allow a certain amount of people on it at a time so you’re bound to find a secluded spot to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. The day we came was sunny and gorgeous, not a cloud in the sky but with that being said make sure you bring an umbrella and lots of sunscreen. We applied 3 times in our span of 3 hours being there and still got burnt in some places. The boat ride over is quick and the captain and crew are wonderful! Captain Peter gave us lots of facts about the island as well as the surrounding animals and plant life. If you’re lucky you’ll also get to see some dolphins swimming on by! Caladesi Island is a beautiful location to relax if you’re looking to get away somewhere...
