IT'S SO NICE UP HERE and also there was cell service with my provider, Cricket Wireless, and I think Verizon gets signal too. The only one I know for sure that DOESN'T, though, is Sprint (Sprint has zero coverage in the entire UP though so that's a given). Anyway, great views, lots of beautiful scenic photography options, gorgeous views of Superior, and the beautiful forests surrounding. There's quite a bit of parking available, as well as outhouses. Be careful of bugs and other wildlife, and bring a jacket because it's pretty windy up there. Cute spot for a mini picnic as long as you clean up after yourself! WONDERFUL for star gazing and seeing the northern lights if you're willing to wait til the wee hours for 'em. Be very careful driving up or down the north side of the mountain, this is a very VERY steep drive, and like every other access road in the UP, it's... sort of wide enough for two cars going opposite ways, if you're reeeeally careful. If you want a more leisurely drive up or down, take the south side, much easier on your gear boxes and probably...
Read moreFantastic overlook during the day--great views of Lakes Superior (obviously) & Medora. Lake Bailey and Eagle Harbor also visible to the west. As beautiful as this is during the day, sunset and stargazing were even more spectacular. No joke here: we watched the sun set at Hunter's Point Park around 9:45pm in late July, went back to our motel for almost an hour, then drove up to Brockway Mountain, where the sun had just set. Clouds squashed my stargazing plans, but when we packed up close to 11:45pm there was still a hint of daylight left (it was a new moon, so that wasn't an issue). As un-fun as the road seems during the day, it's less so at night. Overall, a great place to check out if you're anywhere near the area. For stargazing you'll probably want to come smack dab in the middle of astronomical twilight, as sunrise is obviously earlier here than it is down at Copper Harbor, and...
Read moreThis road isn't plowed during the winter, but during the summer you can drive right to the top of Brockway Mountain. It's paved the entire way, so you don't need 4-wheel-drive or anything. You can take a little Ford Fiesta with no problems. There used to be a little gift shop at the top, but it's not there anymore. Remember to bring your camera if you have one because you can get some beautiful photos. Also, sometimes you can see large ships out on Lake Superior. The camera on your phone isn't going to pick up the ships or anything else in the distance, but if you have a camera with decent zoom you could get some neat photos. Watch your step, it's a...
