Nice visitor center! They have everything you need here: merchandise, stamps, maps, and info from awesome park rangers. They don't accept cash, though, which is pretty annoying. They gave us a "promise to pay" for when we got back to Port and had cell service to pay online. There is a great restroom building up the road from the visitor center that has showers. There is a cafe and gift store up from the restrooms that has some additional gifts, pre made sandwiches, drinks, and snacks. All priced well, surprisingly. Super helpful staff as well.

Definitely remote! If you're coming for a day trip on the ferry you will want to have a game plan in place as there is a lot to see and not a lot of time! The rangers do a few talks/walks as free activities to learn about the park and there are a few trails nearby that can get you into the back country quickly. Just be sure to watch the time, if you get too far you might be doing some cross country style running to get back to the boat in time.

Our experience in Windego was awesome! Arriving on the island via the seaplane, we had our orientation here. Our guide (Chad I believe) was great! Hilarious yet extremely informative! And paying honor to the Chippewa Indians who used to call Isle Royale home by flying their flag next to the American Flag is awesome!

The rangers at the station were very helpful. They pointed out the best day hike for us and the place we were most likely to see moose. Wish we would've tried to find moose first and then go hiking but we know better for next time. We also caught the bones presentation before we took the ferry back and it was funny and informative. As a high school science teacher I even learned a few facts to share with my students. We are looking forward to going back next summer and spend a few days...
