Ken's Educational Joys — Local services in Earl Township

This place gets high marks for the variety of items it carries - a great place to shop for Christian or secular educational or fun materials for children. The prices are certainly not discount, but they're bearable. I often shop here for supplementary Sunday School items. My biggest complaint is that the staff make me feel like they're suspicious of me every time I walk in the door. I've never had a hello or a smile - even when I initiate it. It's not welcoming at all. I'm not Mennonite and I've often wondered if my reception at the store would be better if I were, and that would be very sad, if true. I get a friendlier welcome from the young Mennonite women at the roadside stand down the road. At Ken's I almost feel like they look at me as an intruder. I bought multiple items for Bible School. This store is not close to my home so I admit I have had the return in my car since July, but in perfect condition, in the bag, with the receipt. The store was friendly enough when we purchased the items and assured us we could return unused and unopened items. Well.............not so fast. The man circled the place on the receipt that said must be returned in 14 days. I admit I did NOT see that, but he would not even consider store credit. Needless to say, I won't be buying more S.S. or VBS or anything else in this store. Sorry to say, this is why Mennonites have a bad reputation for being close-fisted. It's also why K-Marts and Wal-Marts flourish. Be reasonable with...

I'm convinced this place only does well because of its monopoly on what it offers. Sadly, the staff can be very unprofessional, especially if you don't belong to their group. The store aisles are overcrowded, it's a nightmare to shop with children. Plus they have a hardline 14-day return policy with absolutely no grace for even one day off, or exceptions even during the holidays/gifts... not for store credit, exchanges, nothing. That is just unacceptable for a business. Prices are just average.
