Filet was ok and cooked properly. Way to expensive though. And was oily for some reason? It was like eating at a pool hall or a chucky cheese. The local high-school Baseball team ? Was there and it was a little over an hour before closing time. So you don't expect top notch service. And we certainly didn't get it! Unless you consider being ignored and literally having to get the waitresses attention or anyone that could see us including local customers from the Baseball team to get her attention for service. Clearly the waitresses was new or something? Because other staff would have to tear her away from her silverware preparation for the next day. And let her know we needed something.. which wasn't so bad. Until the Baseball team left. Then it was all hands on deck to turn the restaurant over for the next day. It was utter caos for the rest of the meal! Dishes crashing staff the staff definitely using their outside voice and hustling about. As if no one was in the restaurant. But besides all the charm of a high-school cafeteria. The food wasn't good. Fried colliwlower was awful, and the fried ice cream was the worst I'd ever had. And no presentation. Even had to ask for whip cream. To put on the naked brown ball on the plate in front of me. $80 bucks for 2 sub par steak dinners. In nowhere Kansas? What a rip off! So if you're traveling through the middle of nowhere and want a good steak? Go...
Read moreSteak is simply delicious, tender and flavorful (reheated leftovers were still super yummy 3 days later!) But jumbo baked potato was a bit overcooked and mushy without much taste. Salad bar is also good, with homemade house ranch and homemade pasta, potato and cucumber salad options. Most of the staff is really friendly and happy to serve, but our waitress barely cracked a smile, and then made a comment under her breath about having to tally the bill of some elderly ladies at the next table so they'd know how much money to have out when they went to pay, splitting the bill. (Usually, they add it up at the register, but I didn't think it was an unusual request) Dessert options are limited - fried cheesecake, fried ice cream or an apple turnover type dish , and you pay extra for ice cream with it. If you prefer a cold beer with your steak, you will want to pay the extra 15 bucks or so for a year's membership to their "private club," the only place alcohol is...
Read moreGo!!!! Take someone and go. Order the butt club for 2. This is their signature dish. It comes with a very large sirloin steak that is too big for two people. Each person can choose how they would like their side cooked. You can choose well done while the person you are with chooses medium-rare and you can guarantee it will be perfect. You then choose a potato each. Comes with a trip to the salad bar but keep it small since the steak is more than enough. Also served with a dinner roll. Each time I have came here the servers are above average. I really cannot think of a single bad thing to say about Big Ed's other than the parking lot is always full. Even with a full place the service is always great. I will continue driving 10 hours just to order the...
