All I can say is WOW! This is one place bibliophiles and book lovers do NOT want to miss out on. BWO is a 300,000+ square foot warehouse stacked floor to ceiling with (quite literally) hundreds of thousands of brand new books, comics, gifts, and trinkets. It is NOT open to the public daily. They only open to the public for a weekend at a time, usually towards the end of every month, so check their Facebook page out for more info. All of the books are in brand new, unread, perfect condition and at the time of writing, everything was 70% off MSRP.
According to my research these books are all overstock/overprints from major publishers. It's inside of an old textile factory, and don't let the dilapidated exterior fool you. This place is massive, not all of it is available to explore though. Some areas are roped off, but there is no shortage of shelves, pallets and boxes to rifle through. You will find your best luck digging through as many piles as you can. There is very little organization, so you might find some genres together, but they could also be intermingled with totally unrelated books. There is a good sense of neatness and order here though, comic books and small gifts are in their own sections for example.
My suggestions for a stress-free experience: bring reusable grocery/tote bags or a rolling cart, because trust me... as soon as you pick up one book, 10 more will appear. If you can pay with cash, it will lead to a quicker checkout. Overall: be patient. This place gets very very busy and there are a lot of people here by midday, even on the last day of the sales. The people working here were super friendly and professional. There was one gentleman working in the middle/back section that went out of his way to greet and help every single person he saw, and struck up genuine conversation with all of them. The people at the checkout are soooo kind as well.
10/10, we...
Read moreAre you looking for bargain books? Are you looking to discounted books? Look no further! If you are a browser, have time, and don't mind a little disorganization or minor chaos, go check out the biggest book warehouse in Easely, SC! There's thousands of books of all genres and for all age groups! And the best part is they are all 70% off! If you are a teacher, you get an extra 5% off! Let me be clear, every book is 70% off the original price! Here's my tips for an amazing experience:
Wear comfortable shoes and clothing! The warehouse is huge so you will do some walking. Wear layered clothing during the fall or winter so you can take it off as needed. I went in December so I wore a jacket.
Go with someone who will not mind browsing because, like I had mentioned, there's thousands of books. The books are organized into sections like fantasy, fiction, religion, etc. However, there's a huge collection of books that are in big boxes/ bins. You will have to be patient to look for what you want. Don't go with an impatient person who is going to rush you!
Take a tote bag if you only have the intention of getting just a few books. I took a cart because I already knew I was going to go crazy and get a lot of books! Trust me, it is so much better to have a cart to pull around than tiring your arms and shoulders out toting around a bag! They do have carts there, but it's a first come first serve basis.
Take snacks or drinks with you if you have the intention of spending hours there.
Check their Facebook for dates! As far as I know, they only open one weekend a month!
They take several...
Read moreThis place is an experience, I am not sure if it is a good one or a bad one. Disabled parking is around the back, and you may still be walking a ways to get in there--then once you are inside there is going to be a ton of walking, navigating crowded and very tight bookshelf spaces, and tight areas around boxes/crates of books. This is important, there is no cell phone signal inside so have a plan if you get separated from your group. Perhaps it is because we came in through the back but there were no maps to reference about the layout of the store so you just have to roam around and hope you find the area you are looking for. Nothing is in alphabetical order. Areas may be broken up and spread far apart like with the Sci-fi/Fantasy sections. There is a lot for sale in just about every category you can think of. Many people bring their own wagons to carry around their goods. It is VERY HOT inside. The bathrooms smell terrible and are pretty dirty. Ultimately if you find a few things to buy you need to weigh that against the length of the line, when we went it extended from the front door all the way across the building to the other side and had begun to curve down a different wall. That being said, it only took about 20 minutes to move through and checking out was pretty fast once you reached a register. The staff at the registers were pretty friendly and offered boxes to carry out your items if you didn't have anything. Prepare to be there for a few hours, come with water and snacks, and accept that you'll be consumed by a massive sea of humanity. I don't think fire codes exist...
