My boyfriend and I went on a group birding tour of the north and south outlooks with a guide and two volunteers, by the end of it we had seen a ton of new birds and had signed up for a membership. Our guides, MT (the bookstore manager) and volunteers Sheryl and Andy were knowledgeable and wonderful to talk to. we learned a ton about birds, the history of the mountain/sanctuary, and local plants and wildlife. The views were incredible and the trails were well maintained and fairly accessible, although some areas were fairly rocky and there was a very steep flight of stone stairs that may be tricky for some.

Read moreIt was a great place to hike if you wanted to do something hard or something easy. So any hiking level is permitted. I was a little disappointed as we saw no hawks. I think it was due to it being a weekend and lots of people may have scared them off. I suggest wearing hiking boots or shoes, or have climbing poles if you hike on the bolders. When we came to the end there were tons of people sitting near it which is like a huge cliff and overlook. You have to climb up it and these people were sitting in the way. Read moreHawk Mountain is a must see for anyone who enjoys a good hike and gorgeous views. I'm originally from Arizona and there's just nothing quite like the views you can get from little to no physical work.
Those who enjoy a challenge though will enjoy the steep climbs of the rock walls and rough trails this mountain can provide.
Those with kids or want a relaxing stroll can walk the smoothed out path leading to the North Point.
