Found a bandsaw at MSU Surplus that I wanted to buy, it had a big flyer saying “this will be a bid item please see our website for details.” Because I didn’t want to miss anything I talked to the service desk for information on when it might be posted, the following week was their answer. I created an account and checked daily for 2 weeks but nothing was posted. I started calling the phone number about once a day but no one answered. On the 3rd week, from my original time seeing the bandsaw, I went back to the store. Someone bought the saw a week prior in store, it was never posted to auction. This is the second incident since this summer where common sales practices seem to have been “stretched.” I don’t think I was swindled obviously, this was just a bad deal for me but more importantly it was a bad example of management. I don’t think I could have been more thorough, I even took pictures. A store should not publicly announce an item for auction and then retract the announcement. It makes me wonder if a friend was able to purchase the item.
Would I return to msu surplus again? Probably, but my confidence in their ethics/standards is going to be cynical for a while.
Do they deserve 1/5 stars for this experience? I feel it’s a harsh rating but I’m annoyed, so I think they do, I’ll change the rating if I have a good experience...

So as I'm a one or two word Google reviewerror this is my best atempt. This is a fantastic store all most as good as what they have at the prestigious university of michigan, go blue. Jim harbaugh is a great but if he can't beat state this year and maybe the buckeyes I'm not sure he's going to be around much longer. Well hopefully this will make my google overloads happy and I'll...
Read moreMy father-in-law always used to say there were two types of garage sales. Ones where they wanted to get rid of stuff and ones where they wanted to make a mortgage payment. MSU Surplus apparently needs to make a mortgage payment.
It used to be that you could get a bargain there but those days are long gone. Most of the things there tend to be overpriced in my opinion, or if not overpriced, at least optimistically priced. You can find what they sell at yard sales far, far cheaper.
Having said that they do have a good range and if you have an urgent need for something and don't mind spending money then they probably have it. Personally, I can't imagine needing...
