It's not a five-star course obviously it's just a flat Iowa course but for Iowa city it's a well-rounded place that has everything you need. The fairways are never burnt or overgrown, the range is most always open, teeoffs and start times are usually flexible, clubhouse is Goldilocks, pace and layout is decent, cart usage is typical although thankfully maybe a little less than other places, rates are average although like most places for some reason the nine-hole is outrageous but I suppose places do that to discourage niners for some reason. The one thing they've never had is any chipping greens which is the funnest and most necessary part of the game, but maybe they're going to put one in finally they got some sort of digging going on. I suppose this should be at most four stars but because of its local utility I'll keep it five. Edit: just reviewing my old review I wish I could play today but it's December. So turns out the digging they did was not for practice screens but they sold-out and made lots for housing. This place doesn't need money they sold out for no reason and put in just a half a dozen lots inside the gated portion of the course. This is not meant to be a housing community type golf course. They had room to make it a fully functional course and put in all sorts of practice greens chipping greens pitching greens sand trap practice extra putting greens etc and instead they sold out. I'm thoroughly shocked and disappointed, gonna drop it from five down to three stars for this. Sorry I got to do it but your need to make a measly 100K times however many lots is just so short-sighted and selfish. And who's going to want to live there and now your gate access and privacy will be all...
Read moreDecent difficulty until the green where they put the pins on every hill. You also have to putt through mud, thick patches of green, and ball marks galore to the same rotation of 4 pin locations. It's not fun. People there have 0 etiquette when it comes to passing. If you're stuck behind a 4sum playing as a 2 sum then you're stuck regardless of Marshalls. The main manager in the morning is a prude. You get booked during tournaments and league play so good luck with that.. It doesn't make any sense why this place is more expensive than brown deer but it is a last option in Iowa City unless you're a solo. They don't do solo players. If you book a time that no one is out, you can't go out. Only person waiting to go out? Still can't go. Want to be paired up with someone? You have to specifically ask and even then they won't call you up. That's probably why it's always wide open most days. That and it's always the back 9 first. Learn to change it up... 2 stars because you can...
Read moreMy buddies and I planned to play 9 holes here on Saturday evening. We checked in with an employee named Jack who was extremely unpleasant through the whole process of collecting payment. 4 holes in it starting down pouring with lighting strikes less than a mile away from the course. This was a dangerous situation and we felt as if playing through these conditions would be extremely dangerous. We headed back to the clubhouse thinking the course was closed as the weather was unplayable. When we got back to the clubhouse a man named Jack was completely insensitive to our situation and told us we could only get a refund “if a tornado touched down on the course”. I find this policy ridiculous and impractical. Anyone who may encounter a storm during your round, be aware of this policy and the demeanor of Pleasant Valley’s employees. The staff being extremely rude right from the start made for a horrible experience. Plenty of better golf options in the Iowa City area, we will...
