the first time I stepped up to Fox Market, I was mildly confused. should I pick the door labeled “Bar”? or the one labeled “Market”? I decided that it probably didn’t matter. I picked one and walked in.
immediately, I felt like I was in my own version of paradise a la fifth grade, back when I worshipped David Bowie and wanted to be a punk rocker. the colors and decor were exciting and somehow familiar - like my old bedroom if my mom had ever let me take off the wallpaper.
I got a coffee and the wifi password after shyly poking around. the person who gave me the password leaned over the counter and looked me straight in the eye while spelling it out, making me wonder if it was posted somewhere I ought to have noticed.
I sat upstairs in the fox den for about four hours working on some hopeless freelance editing projects, shazaming songs the whole while. I was swaddled by this sense of comfort, of gathering and community - zines, tarot cards, fridge poems left as if the people who put them there would be back to pick up right where they left off.
a few weeks or so later, I started working at Fox. I won’t go into that whole experience, but I wish I could describe how beautiful everyone (everyone!!!) is. I admire Liv and Doni for holding such a space, and I don’t know where I’d be without them. I can’t express how grateful I am to have been a part of something so special.
Fox is where I first felt some kind of home since moving to Vermont. it will always have a piece of my heart.
tldr; I highly recommend trying the blueberry poptart next...
Read moreFor context, I was out on a trip to Plainfield for my 6th anniversary with my fiance. I was looking at things to do around me and this popped up. This place was PERFECT.
Firstly, this was the most inclusive place I'd ever been to. You will not find a safer space around.
Secondly, wow, is the vibe cool. It's like the perfect amounts fancy-feeling, comfortable to be yourself, and so precisely Vermont.
Thirdly, everything you want to get is great. Their beer and wine selection is great, especially on the wine leaning side. Their small market is great with a full selection of very interesting and delicious looking things. And their food is amazing. We got a couple hand pies and the bao bun. It was absolute perfection.
FOURTHLY, there was only one staff member on during a game night and they were killing it. They made us feel so welcomed and safe. They were incredibly friendly and relaxed. They perfectly rounded out the experience for us and will be most of the reason we come back.
Summary: Best vibes, great selection, perfect people, and for all that is holy try one of...
Read moreThis is quite possibly everything I've ever wanted out of a market/bar/place to hang. I was on a road trip and stopped here on a whim solely to just grab a quick snack, and I'm SO glad I did.
This is THE coolest place – a wide variety of curated home goods, incredibly unique wine selection, grab and go sandwiches/food and drinks from the fridge, plus a full beer/wine bar. There's a little upstairs area to chill with vintage couches and seating, a huge outdoor patio to roam around in the warmer months, plus a very friendly cat! The decor in this place is super cute to boot. Best of all, the owners are very welcoming and queer friendly. I might drive 5 hours back to VT just to...
